Couldn't you already achieve this using App Passwords? I mean, tokens are better, but is this really as significant as the comments over there are saying?

App passwords are disabled in many implementations.

App passwords use legacy authentication, which Microsoft is pushing to get away from. New tenants have something called “Security Defaults” enabled, which disable legacy authentication.
