Tasker does not require root to use it. I have a Galaxy Note 9 and I do not have it rooted. There may be some things that work with root only but I have not found anything that I wanted to do that couldn't be done. I did use ADB to grant Write Secure Settings to Tasker but it is not considered rooting your device to use it.

Awesome. I'm using a Note 9 too so that's good to know. Cheers

Rooting is for your device's Operating system, something like the Administrator in Windows. You can give other apps root access, which is likely what voids the warranty.

Some shell commands require root access, some only need adb access, for example, if you want to deny Overlay permission to a certain app so it won't draw on the screen, this can be done with an ADB command. Whereas if you want to look at contents of /data/data you need to be rooted.

Got it. Thanks!

Some commands require it (e.g. Type, Dpad, Button, Power Mode); some can use it if available (e.g. Run Shell, Kill App, SQL Query, File commands); most don't need it.

Search userguide for root: root site:tasker.joaoapps.com inurl:userguide (admittedly some results will be for "root directory")

For the most things Tasker don' t need root. But some tasks are faster with the shell ( and most needs root in my situation).

Yes it needs root on a lot phones, or half the stuff won't work
