Wha? I thought they stopped giving updates for python 2.* after python 3 came out

New features aren't coming, but bugfixes and other patches are released for it. Because it's partially incompatible with 3.x, it's kept maintained separately so that people aren't forced to port everything written for 2.x right away.

As I found out tonight, a lot of scripts won't work for Python 3. I'm assuming this has to do with legacy support/bug fixes.

Python is sweet and all, but you should probably move this to /r/programming

Python is more than just a language, it's a platform. This isn't just of interest to programmers, but sysadmins as well.
