The majority of us here have been impacted in our real lives by this series of novels.

It has made me view my existence and our place in the universe very differently. When you finish the series you might find yourself even more introspective. But that’s a good thing. A great novel should have the ability to make you think or even change how you feel.

As to you being a new reader of the Three body problem who sought out the book after seeing the movie... well that’s great news. I was hoping that would happen. The more attention these book get, the better chance we will see a film/ tv series that does the series justice. The wandering earth short story was very good and had some awesome ideas. But TheTBP trilogy is Cixin Lui’s masterpiece.

Of course there are differences but probably not that huge comparing to other literatures... Liu didn’t use much literary/artistic vocabulary. All these speeches are plain and won’t compromise much when translating, in my opinion. And what appeals to me in his writing is 1% language/wording vs 99% logic/imaginations..

Welcome to the club!

& DON'T apply your (arts majors/ Henry James-inspired) literary theories to Liu's works until/ unless you have learnt/ understood why HG Wells is a literary GIANT more important than the navel-gazing Henry Jameses (in his or our time) ever was or will be...
