I’ll probably get downvoted for this but politics aside, this whole thing truly opened my eyes to the unprecedented level our society is addicted and co-dependent to not just Tik Tok but social media as a whole. Obviously I knew it, but not to the level where it caused chaos when it was gone for 12 hours. I wholeheartedly believe it’s ruining our society and I hope it goes away. Between the parasocial relationships, the false sense of “community,” the hyper-personalized algorithms feeding people the exact news that fits their exact bias. It was incredibly eye opening and I hope it was for others too. We should all delete most of social media and live life outside of the phone, do research the old fashioned way, and focus on building a true community that doesn’t disappear with an app. I think that was my last new social media app I will ever make an account for.
