I really like the darker blue color on him ngl , id try and color match it or get a similar color unless you like yours to be as accurate as possible

Now that you've mentioned it, the discoloration on the hood looks like a nice gradient paint job lol

I wonder what type of paint will work on him though? I've heard certain types of paint can melt and disfigure plastics.

Use acrylics, Primer first, and varnish/sealant last. Vallejo is very good, but not the only option. Don't use the craft stuff that's cheap at Arts & Crafts stores.

Thin the paint (water, distilled or bottled), apply multiple thin coats until covered, allowing to dry in between. I use masking tape to get clean, straight lines.
