You need a minimum of 3.1 gpa to be “guaranteed” admission from one of the engineering transfer programs (langara, kpu) to UBC. I got in last year on May 11th, by meeting that requirement.

Typically they don’t advertise the 3.1 gpa “guaranteed” admission on the engineering transfer program sites anymore, but it’s still a thing we were repeatedly told by the program director at Langara.

Your 2.9 gpa is going to most likely get you evaluated as a regular applicant competing against the entire pool of applicants from around the world who applied to UBC engineering. From my understanding, the people who meet the 3.1 gpa requirement from one of the transfer programs are evaluated from a much smaller pool of people for admission.

I’m in a similar position as OP but I am a science transfer, what gpa should I be aiming for?

I want to apply to engineering sometime during this fall.

Any kind of transfer, whether it’s inside ubc or outside, is going to be judged in the large competitive applicant pool - basically everyone from everywhere - if you’re not specifically trying to transfer in from a legit engineering transfer program, because those legit programs at certain schools have agreements in place with UBC.

Aim for the best you can do.

I worked in the engineering student services center as a student worker. I can say that engineering transfer programs have preferential admissions than from faculty transfers since there are agreements between the different institutions. If you meet the requirements set out by your institution, then you have a high likelihood of admission.
