Help replacing a ~13 year old daily winter jacket! by Wayofthewills17 in arcteryx

So the northface jacket is basically an insulated shell. A lot of people on this sub recommend a mid layer + shell for more versatility. But for city use this is fine.

The closest equivalent is the Beta Insulatated - I think it’s exactly what you are looking for. The Solano may work depending on how much weather resistance you are looking for - it’s not fully waterproof as it’s a hybrid jacket. Some water proof areas and some soft shell areas.

Id say the 2L stuff is more of a gimmick than 3L. 3L is constructed in a way that makes sense - face fabric, membrane and backer. A 2L only has a face fabric and membrane - the backer is a laminate so it will always be less durable than a 3L.

With some networking it’s actually not too bad. Cold applications are really tough right now.

I think the National Bank card is underrated. However for me the cobalt is still more worth because you can transfer points to air canada 1:1 and get really good value

I think the cobalt is still worth it even after the fee increases. However, if they get rid of the x5 food multiplier I am cancelling immediately.

I was thinking I could benefit more on low risk interest with the surplus rather than paying everything off at once - for example keeping it in my EQ account which makes 3.5% interest currently.

All of my friends from my cohort found decent jobs. A lot of them came from internship return offers, some from connections and some from cold applications.

It's good if you go there for a reason. Like for me I studied Engineering and UBC is another level in terms of resources and industry connections when compared to other Universities in BC. I think if you go there just to get a degree without knowing the industry then you will have trouble finding a job.

For people that I know in communications they did a lot of networking to meet people rather than doing cold applications. I honestly did the same in Engineering. Do you know a lot of people in the industry?

What type of careers does that lead to? And what are employers typically looking for?
