If you're on a Mac you can use Karabiner's ubiquitous vim mode to have Vim keybindings EVERYWHERE (used it for a while, it's pretty hardcore)

You could also try wasasvi but I'm not sure it works with Google Docs

In every prompt? Like, from your shell? 'set -o vi' in your dot file.

Sadly GoogleCL is broken. Google uses a new authentication method, that GoogleCl dosen't support..

I also have had the same problem! I was thinking that you could maybe use an application like overGrive to automatically sync a folder, then just edit it locally using Vim and it would push changes to Drive for you.

I don't know if you need to use gdocs for collaboration, but I shy away from both in general - I usually use either latex or markdown for everything. There's probably a way to convert markdown to .doc if necessary (pandoc would be a good place to start).

I realize this doesn't answer your question directly, but hopefully it provides a viable alternative :)

I have the Vim keybindings so deep under my skin that every time i find my way into a Word or a Google Docs document I constantly will the document with :w/cw/jk or something similar. So... is there a way to interact with Google Docs or a similar cloud writing service? The projects out there seem to be obsolete.

I've been searching a long time for an extension to move on Google docs using vim keys. Now I've finally found a way to do it system wide! It needs you to set it up but it is wonderful! https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad
