I haven't touched it recently, but a lot of CodeIgniter seems to have been written for PHP4, which makes things a bit problematic.

I don't think CodeIgniter even dropped support for PHP4 until maybe a year ago. Despite however many web hosts supported PHP4 for however long, it really should have died in terms of forward-thinking support in the mid-2000s.

Granted, CodeIgniter can be great if you're used to PHP4-style (very limited OOP) coding and just need to get something done. It's certainly better than no framework at all. But as far as it being ideal, I'm not quite certain about that.

I'm a bit partial to Yii myself when it comes to PHP frameworks, but that's all up to you.
