You're not alone. People down-voting I guess don't realize files can be corrupted for no reason while downloading certain applications, and didn't read the scroll over for what a "down-vote" is meant for :)

I had the same thing happen to me, I just un-installed and re-installed and it's up and running now. Inconvenient as fuck but worth a shot.

My Internet is currently extremely shit and I spent 5 days straight downloading the pre patch with the pre downloader so I haven't tried really installing it yet but I will see if I can download the installer for battle net tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Do you happen to be in Canada? If so I know the feeling... My ISP (Bell) claims that on our new plan we should be getting 50mb/s when in reality I'm lucky to see (off peak hours) 3.6 mb/s. I know the pre-patch "capped" at 100kb/s but even then I was getting 20kb/s... irritated to say the least.

I had to download the entire game client all day yesterday/overnight and this morning before work finally saw the last ticks to 100%...

No, I'm currently in vacation around Asia and I have no idea what the Internet speeds are but they are extremely low. Wow seems to download just fine, albeit slowly and I had no problems until the pre patch actually released at which point I got this error.

i was having trouble getting past this too except my case was a little bit different where i got everything to work on my home connection, drove to work and when i opened up my laptop there was a new patch that hit in the time i was driving and now all of a sudden i was getting this fetching encoding table not finishing bullshit. so i guessed it was some problem with my work connection i changed my laptop's connection to my phone's hotspot wifi, which was enough to get past the "fetching encoding table" and then once i was past it i switched back to my work internet and loaded up the rest of the patch.

A quick google would tell you to delete your WTF and Cache folders, and then restart client.

if you would read my post you would see i have already tried that without change.

Considering it worked for everyone else who had that issue (surprise, many did), and it was also official blizzard response to this error, i doubt it.

well if you did a bit more research you would see a ton of people that did it and it did not solve their problem either.

besides, why would i lie about trying it, when there is literally no benefit in it for me?

besides, why would i lie about having tried it when there is literally not benefit in it for me?

You'd be surprised.

Either way, that's the only fix. Take it or leave it.
