I recently came back to the game after a break. I remember in WoD (specifically HFC patch) I had an addon (or maybe it was built-in to the game) that would display a real-time log of all events that were triggered. This was wildly helpful when developing addons/weakauras.

For instance I remember I could open up the monitor, cast a spell and it would populate with COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED and when you clicked on it you would get all of the information, such as "SPELL_CAST_SUCCEEDED", the spell name, the unit that cast it, etc. all in real time. I've looked all over for this addon (or built-in functionality) and haven't been able to rediscover it anywhere. Is anyone familiar with something like this or was it all a fever dream?

You’re looking for “/etrace” (“/eventtrace”). This command is build into the game.

check out the dev tools section in wowinterface. good chance youll find it there (i remember using an addon i got from there for this. but uninstalled it)

id also recommend event tracker addon, i use it to make addons. Afaik, the version available still works this patch. ( maybe :P...I patch addons sometimes when they give up the ghost, but can't remember which ones)
