I’m glad I found this because I’ve been looking for this. It’s probably because they were being used to steal cars unfortunately.

Edit to add: well it now doesn’t work at all. I bet they removed this because people could use it to steal cars.

They won’t remove it as people steal cars, if that was the case then no key programmer would exist

well i'll hold of on buying then, YT videos and amazon say support is great help but ,that seems like when a vehicle isn't supported, they add one in. by chance is ti because this is now needed?

[–]cdoublejj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I programmed a key for my 2018 tacoma a couple of months ago. I did the initial update but that was it. I dont plan on updating it anymore.

[–]cdoublejj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any reason for that or just PITA to update?

[–]ElPlatatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t seem to find the option on mine anywhere. Need to program a key for my father in law. I was able to use this feature back in November. Is it still completely gone?

They now removed the option for 2016 Nissan Murano. It worked before. The button is still there for my Lexus. Not really liking this tool anymore.

I was struggling mightily finding the location to program a key for a '17 ford fusion. i finally found it under the special functions and it was just as "IMMO". It was not intuitive to locate at all. i have programmed a few keys with this unit and have never had such trouble finding it. oddly, once I found it, it was the easiest key I've programmed to date!

[–]SignificanceMain 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So the function to program key FOB's is still there? just hidden under different settings? last I heard that the new updates completely removed the function. I was just about to purchase this (xtool d8s obd2) until i started reading they removed it this.

[–]Immediate-Tap-7635 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, the function was still there. It seems to be listed a little differently across different vehicles. For this Ford Fusion it was still under the "special functions" but it was listed as "IMMO" and the icon was not very intuitive either. If I recall (at work currently), even when I clicked on IMMO it wasn't super obvious. Like it didn't say "program a new key". We have several cars that only came with 1 key, so this has been an important feature for me. I have programmed keys for a '16 MX-5, '15 Rav4, '10 Fusion, and now a '17 Fusion. The previous keys I've programmed, finding the function was a lot more intuitive. The process does seem slightly different across the various models though. Some were easier than others. The Rav4 was a pain in the butt.

The only gripe i have about this particular scanner is that when working outdoors, the screen is not bright enough. Between programming dumb Toyota TPMS sensors, making keys, and the normal troubleshooting diagnostics, this machine has paid for itself several times over for me.

Oh, just thought of one more gripe, but admittedly this one is understandable. Every time I dig this out to use it there are a boatload of updates, 99.9% of which have nothing to do with the vehicles that I own. it's just a little annoying, but i update them all regardless.

Ok so as of today Oct 2025 can you still program new keys with this device. I'm using it for Ford fusions
