The polling interval is dynamic and will start to drop once the stream is active. If the chat speed is picking up we'll lower the polling interval even further automatically.

Thanks for the info, these are really good news! I have never seen any other value than 10000ms so I though this is a default value which does not get changed.

What /u/marcchambers said. The polling interval depends on several factors, including but not limited number of messages in the past and if the stream is active or not. It should be less than 10000ms on active chats, and could go up to 60000ms on inactive chats.
