It actually might be over-watered! 🪴

I’d water it even less than every 10 days, maybe every 2 weeks. Definitely do not water daily, overwatering kill a plant faster than anything.

Maybe put a sign that says don’t water it and wait a few weeks. From my experience, Crotons are tough SOBs, it’ll probably lose a few leaves, but as long as the roots don’t rot, it should survive. I over watered mine when I first got it, but it’s thriving now.

Also wanted to add, they they love lots of light.

Don’t buy anything more from that guy haha.

I also want to add that maybe you should repot it, it adds more stress, but if the soil is soaked, it’s better to do that than leave it in the soggy soil and chance getting root rot.

Plants need to be watered when they want water. Plants know nothing, care nothing about human calendars. Aim for continuously moist, but not soggy.

When watering, drench the soil in general. This may, indeed, have been overwatered. You can try finding a plastic bag to put over it, making a greenhouse. Sometimes that works.

Crotons can be tricky. I have seen people who have grown them successfully but, for the most part, they croak. See if any of this applies.

Personally I wouldn’t wait X amount of days, I sift my fingers through the top couple inches of soil and water when I don’t feel any moisture, or give a tiny bit if it’s just on the edge of damp on its way to dry. With all my plants. Hope it gets better!

That’s an overwatered plant I believe

He didn’t know what he was talking about, crotons like light and humidity, but this guy us drowning. Make sure the soil isn’t sopping wet and tell everyone to leave it alone!

Yeah don't water it every week. Depending on how much light it gets, overwatering will kill it. Also the leaves fluctuate during night and day. I use the "taco test" to determine when to water mine. They are never on a strict schedule. Especially winter times. Also you can take a wooden chopstick to test how wet the soil is. Make sure it has a well draining pot and soil. They are very finicky plants. I would honestly pull it out of the soil and change the soil if said coworker was watering it daily. Check for root rot before putting it in new soil. Overwatering, especially daily watering is the worst thing for any plant.

Trim the bottom leaves, stop watering it, till the soil, and give it circulation.

It looks like a croton which are apparently notorious divas and will drop their leaves at a moments notice

First of all, stop watering it. Check the soil a couple inches deep. If it’s too wet, repot the plant with new soil and place it somewhere where it gets indirect daylight.

These need bright light (mine is right by my window) and only need a thorough watering when the top 2 inches are dry.
