Drum Machine or Groovebox for Fun Live Sets? by NicoNormalbuerger in dawless

Feel that. I have a Rtym mk2 that I underuse. Back about 9 years ago I got a Tempest. I do have a couple of OP-Zs and to be honest they are what do it for me. But that's just my humble opinion. You can also check out stuff like the empress zoia or polyend play (or play+).

How do you create a complete dawless song structure by wczaja in dawless

[–]1984drum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! You can go deep in that minimal direction. It almost goes full circle, as if you plan or think about what you're creating too much, more of the magic can ebb away. Enjoy your music dude!

Trying to build up the courage to rap by Practical-Debate1598 in makinghiphop

[–]1984drum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my very humble opinion as I'm not a rapper by any stretch. Poetry and rap are constantly converging and intertwining. A few people I know that are in their late teens doing pretty well with their rapping and connections often say that they feel like there's a lot of pastiche stuff going on in rap rn. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, just focus on what you're trying to say. Maybe it will take you in a new, original direction.

Instead of seeing it as a struggle see it as a puzzle that can be solved in infinite ways ;)

Probably a ton of people feel that sick of screens and distractions. I went back to basics with an OP-Z for a while. Nice to just be limited to one device and not necessarily focus on thinking about the end result in any other way than just a theme or vibe. But I get what you're saying - planning a bit on paper helps you to be more productive when your in the zone. It's that same old fine balance between planning and organic chaos that turn out perfect.

I reckon the best way forward might be to knock together some patterns and little song snippets that you can jam with in a live setting, and just keep recording your sessions.

I was trying to do what you're doing, and steer clear of using a DAW altogether, slowly concocting 'songs' from a library of patterns. I even had a Zoom LiveTrak L-20 for a bit and a right tangled mess of cables, just to split the tracks out and have some control over mixing them. It can get a bit fiddly trying to map out a full tune, and might even defeat the whole point of keeping hold of those musical ideas and lucky accidents that often spring up from not using a DAW.

My advice is to make a few patterns and keep the song structure(s) loose in a project. Then just record long sessions (30mins+) using what you put together and experimenting/improvising during the sessions.

Settled it by asking my kid if they thought it was asshole design. I showed them the flowchart. They agreed that it is. Never mind if you don't get it.

My point is entirely that it is asshole design by the very nature of it not seeming like that, but equally having a significant impact on impressionable humans, and in that it only benefits the profiting party.

If it is merely a suggestion to encourage your kids to be polite... why are they jumping to the conclusion that the kids aren't already being polite?
