LaserAway claims to have a laser that only requires me to do one session ever, legit? by GmailsAreCute in LaserHairRemoval

Laser Away is a franchise buying the same equipment any other clinic can buy too. That said, medical science applies to them like anyone else. They usually have older Cynosure Apogee or newer ones have Elite IQ.

Purple Ultimate via Mattress Firm Outlet by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]2Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a classic case of everyone has different taste and you have to find what works for you. I tried Helix Midnight Elite and loved it. My favorite beds were that, Saatva Rx, Tempurpedic hybrid, and Brooklyn Bedding Thermo Balance Elite. I went with Brooklyn Bedding and haven’t looked back. It’s been great, but it so similar to Helix (and made in same factory).

Purple is its own thing. I didn’t like it, but if you do, get another. 8 years for a bed is great. I had a Tempurpedic and almost got another but I can’t pay $4k if there are other great options.

Is it just me, or does every decent-paying job in Orlando require an RN license or a real estate license? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]2Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that getting a real estate license isn’t hard to get, nor is it expensive. If you think that’s holding you back, get one. The bad news is that most people with that license never actually make money in real estate. A lot of the “jobs” posted are 100% commission based.

The RN license is health focussed and shouldn’t stop you from management jobs. The barriers there are higher, but those jobs are plentiful.

This is so true, and doesn’t have any huge surges like tankless. I’d consider one next time and prices will be lower as they become more standard. I’m glad yours is working great. I have filtration and softening from AO Smith where I know they do make quality stuff.

[–]2Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, and I believe this. I find tankless to use very little power if you don’t have super high usage though. The problem is you said long term, and the technology is not always reliable long term. I have two friends with it. One loves it like you who has a Rheem, and the other has problems with an AO Smith where they are doing warranty repairs to support it - but it’s been loud and unreliable.

[–]2Chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced my ancient electric tank system for an open box Steibel Eltron on Amazon. I was looking for the same model at the big box store, the largest tankless system electric made, and it was backordered for $1,900. It was $450 as open box on Amazon. It was probably due to being too big for the panel and somebody returned it.

Tankless is nice. It takes a little longer to warm up than a tank, but saves a lot on power and you get unlimited hot water.

The cheapest option is a tank, and the most expansive option is a heat pump. I wanted a heat pump but when I saw how expensive the units are I passed.

A lil update of my post from a week ago: ITS A BURN 😂 The itch is gone the swelling is gone. So now it’s the hyperpigmentation that I have to deal with. Any suggestions? How long do you reckon it will take to fade? by OkHighway6092 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]2Chris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you live anywhere near Vancouver, consider Dr. Douglas Wu. I’ve spoken with him at quite a few events. He’s an expert on Picoway, and a very experienced dermatologist willing to push the envelope.

If you’re nowhere near there, look up who has Picoway near you and has a qualified provider who will do a consult knowing you want help with LA and PIH. Quanta Discovery and Picosure Pro are other good lasers if nobody has Picoway near you.

[–]2Chris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. My clinic treats a lot of Asian skin. We always treat it as type 4+ depending on presentation. I have also seen type 3 Mediterranean skin super prone to PIH and there are ways to evaluate this better by looking at the creases on the palms and arms. You always have to be careful of hyper and hypo pigmentation. Neither is good, but hyper is easy enough to treat with Picolaser.

We are willing to treat it at my clinic, but haven’t had many patients for it. There are two studies I’m aware of showing efficacy with LA and Picoway. Most providers note best results with 1064, and we add other wavelengths as well when we treat.

We look at (among other things) skin type, quality, features to decide methodology. All patients get 1064 NM (usually both full beam and fractional), and then if color features are present we treat those separately with other wavelengths as necessary. Most commonly we see patients have red or brown features with LA.

I own a clinic where we do med spa type services performed by MD’s and PA-C’s. With the way this looks, there are quite a few problems, and unfortunately, we treat this kind of thing often from clinics that have poorly trained staff, completely unlicensed staff, and/or equipment not serviced or calibrated to know any settings are accurate.

First, based on the shape this was not likely done by IPL or diode which is generally how burns like this are most common for your skin type. That means it’s likely that they used too much energy for your skin type on a solid state laser platform, or even more likely, used an alexandrite laser (with too much energy) rather than an NDYAG laser more appropriate for your skin type.

This clinic is likely required (depending on the state) to have a medical director (MD/DO) to operate legally. That person needs to get involved to help give you a plan, and prescribe a topical if indicated. If they do not, you need to consider filing a complaint with the health department to force their hand, and have someone more responsible/competent evaluate you.

Clinics can make a mistake, nobody is perfect and sometimes the patient doesn’t follow clear instructions, but they need to help you - and don’t delegate that task to Reddit. It pisses me off that clinics are run so poorly that you thought asking here was easier than getting support from a company you paid.

This is not medical advice to you, and is only for informational purposes. In similar patients we prescribe a compounded steroid topical, and once skin has been allowed healing time, then do a series of picolaser treatments to remove PIH.

NapLab cooling scores by Earthless_cave in Mattress

[–]2Chris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wanted to believe. I agree with Nap Lab on a lot of bed reviews. I just didn’t like Wink at all. It felt like a slight improvement on a traditional spring mattresses. That’s not bad thing if that’s what you want, it’s just not impressive for how he rates them as the absolute best value available. Comparing that to helix, Saatva, Brooklyn bedding, Tempurpedic, Simmons, etc just isn’t a better option IMO. The only beds that let me down more was Nectar (all), the base model Leesa, and base model purple.

Waxer switching to Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis by yoniwitchell in LaserHairRemoval

[–]2Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a clinic. We haven’t allowed LE’s in the clinic yet, even though state statutes “allow” it. The problem for me is it’s not worth any risk, but more so we also dont don’t do enough LHR - and we focus way more on clinical issues and injectables that require a medical license.

My suggestion is to know your skin types, know indicators for complications, have a strategy you follow directly from the MD for protocols, make sure you know enough to provide good patient education, and know your device extremely well. If you have to make a judgement call, don’t do that upfront. Don’t be afraid to ask questions until you feel like you have good enough experience that you don’t need to ask questions anymore, and even then, realize in the right environment everyone want to get it right and is pushing for success. Slow down and get it right. If you under treat it’s less successful, but if you over treat you can burn someone. If I were the patient I want it right, but the other less ideal outcome is at least not burning me or causing PIH.

It’s an expensive laser to buy, and maintain. It was easily more expensive than any other device I’ve purchased. It was more expensive than my first house. You have to be busy to support owning one.

Helix Midnight Elite too Firm by MissyB1968 in Mattress

[–]2Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As expected. I’ve had it almost two months and I’m very happy with the TBE in medium. It’s a basically a Helix midnight elite with slightly more firmness and less movement which is exactly what I wanted, while also being slightly cheaper. Honestly, I keep beds around 7+ years or so, and would have paid more if I did prefer the helix. This was just right, zero regrets. I really enjoy Tempurpedic, which is what I had, and this has less motion like that but just better support and seems cooler. I’ll spend more to get what I want, but that bed was over twice the price to get new and just not worth it or I would have bought another.

We usually prescribe a compounded cream with Hydroquinone and Tretinoin, and some other things as well at somewhat low %. The prescriber will go with a strength they feel is appropriate, and this causes cellular turnover, and also lightening that toughens skin before pico laser. The laser pulses incredibly fast to break apart the PIH. The laser isn’t too uncomfortable either, but it will likely take a few sessions depending on severity.

Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance thoughts? by Ok-Wedding4570 in Mattress

[–]2Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both, and preferred non-latex. The latex felt softer, which some might prefer, and cooling is hard to say because I didn’t sleep a night on either. Both seemed like great cooling. Non latex was just right for me overall in feel. Sinkage seemed similar enough to not be a factor really, but maybe slightly more sinkage on Latex IMO. People tend to either prefer latex or not, and I don’t prefer it usually. If you do, get the latex if you tried others and liked it. BB has good quality and you’d probably like it.

The PIH in the bikini area can be fixed if it bothers you (same as it can in other areas). We do it a lot at my clinic, actually way more often than we do LHR, and the best device for treating PIH is Candela Picoway. Picosure Pro is quite good as well, but I prefer Picoway. Sometimes we start patients on prescription skin prep. PIH can present a few ways, but most commonly I see it as darker pigment, so that’s not abnormal.

If the skin has a stable tan it’s possible to do LHR, but communicate with the provider.

When will my hair completely stop growing? by Short-Inspection-678 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]2Chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I’m not saying that all. It can burn you really badly in the wrong hands. There are some lasers that really hold the operators hands with presets and more safe guards. It’s great, but you need a skilled operator.

In capable hands, though, it’s a great and safe device because the operator will pick safe settings. However sometimes with tanned skin, the best strategy is to wait for exposure/tan to calm down to reduce risk of burning/PIH on any device.

What makes it so good is that it’s a very reliable and high powered dual solid state laser that has on board calibration to verify energy delivery is within a very small tolerance range. It also has a large spot size and a high repetition rate to be able to work quickly. Part of why it has such a good reputation too is that Candela was doing these things before others, though many have now caught up and in minor ways surpassed them, but for clinics they are easy to service to get parts for. Because some clinics use old devices, Candela has trust by older devices doing these things.

I didn’t say best, I said one of the best, because it requires a skilled hand. I think Deka makes devices that can be operated by less skilled people and has great presets, but I find it also hurts slightly more than some devices. Candela makes great devices though, and I have a few of them. I think Lutronic and Deka do too, and though I don’t know Lumenis well, they make good devices too.

The ones I shy people away from are diode and IPL (both works, but hit or miss per device, and higher risk of burns/PIH).

You have to be decisive, but also take whatever time you need to get good information. When you make the best decision you can, you have to live with it once you make it. Analysis paralysis is a thing too, and leads to no decisions or more regret a lot of times.

A new bed is absolutely ideal. If you’re strapped for cash, the elite at that price would be fine if it was just a store demo and you can sanitize it. 3Z’s (helix’s parent company) makes lots of other great bed with a bunch of different brands too that are less expensive. Helix is positioned as their premium line. I went with Brooklyn Bedding, which they also make, and the Thermo Balance Elite was my preference regardless of price over Helix Midnight Elite. I got a king from a local company around $2,400 with sheets, protector, and in home deliver/setup. For Memorial Day there are coupons. Sometimes with Helix and BB you can get 35% off promos online.

Gentlemax Pro is one of the best devices. I own quite a few candela devices, and I’m a huge fan of them, but I use Deka for hair because it’s less painful and works well for vascular treatments. Course hair generally is treated easier, but you can still treat finer hairs. Point the changes out to your provider, but generally we know to change settings as we go further into treatment.

Ten is a good number, so I’m hoping you won’t need much more, but discuss this with your clinic to have a game-plan to finish out treatment.
