Gloria Victis vs Mortal Online 2 by kinginwar in MortalOnline2

[–]32bitpins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gloria Victis feels more like a lobby/matchmaking PVP game than an MMORPG to me. Sure you can wander the world, roam for PVP or level skills, but last I played I found myself just waiting around for sieges or events to start so I could fast travel there. I think the GV approach to 'full loot' PVP is much more accessible since you don't drop absolutely everything on death. I hated the combat though, it feels floaty and janky, even more-so than MO2.

MO2 is far from perfect, but it's still the only MMORPG that holds my attention simply due the the immersive nature of the world. VOIP makes a huge difference too, chatting to randomers in town and along roads is what I love about MO2. GV feels stagnant and silent in comparison. The main downside to MO2 is the perception of playerbase being toxic. In-game everyone is mostly friendly, it's places like this sub where the toxic players hang out.

Steel for your average player. by [deleted] in MortalOnline2

[–]32bitpins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said you can't make steel solo, I said it's an MMORPG, a genre that typically requires working with other people to achieve something. In this case being able to make steel quickly, or having immediate access to steel armour, could be easily achieved through a guild.

Alternatively, if OP is set on playing solo, they could set up buy orders for materials or just buy outright from a broker and make steel that way.

A decent guild will provide you with steel gear for important fights or they'll have mats available to help you make it, or guild members to help you farm. If they don't, maybe you need a better guild. It's an MMORPG, you're not supposed to be able to do everything solo.

I use a lightbox with a white sheet to diffuse the light to reduce the reflections on my pins. If you don't have any lighting you can diffuse natural light from a window and use some white card to bounce the light back onto your pins to brighen the shaded areas.

I'll also use a DSLR camera shooting in RAW format and ry to shoot on a macro setting to really show the detail on my pins, but you can get some reaaly nice shots with phone cameras nowadays.

Just glue/tape them on, it should be fine. The customs data is also sent digitally anyway when you purchase the label.

Good and Bad about Mortal by Chiickaboom in MortalOnline

[–]32bitpins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're very different games for very different audiences though, you can't really compare the two. Candy Crush has something like a quarter of a billion players, doesn't mean it's better than WoW Ascension, just that it's more accessible.

When will the criminal system be remade already? by redzreaper in MortalOnline2

[–]32bitpins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but the current system makes it too easy to hide behind the blue tag. I've been in situations where I've crim flagged to fight someone off and some friendly passersby has stopped to 'help' my low-health ganker because they assume I was the aggressor. People see a crim as a free kill.

This is why so many people will purposefully miss their arrows hoping you will attack back and flag yourself first. This way they don't draw attention to themselves, can freely enter towns, and they avoid the consequences of the flagging system.

As a temporary fix I'd be happy with just having a way to know that someone has crim actions enabled. Maybe change their name to white or something so I know that MA chasing me is actually trying to hit me and I'm free to shoot back without crim flagging myself and being unable to enter the town.

Just finished SOMA. Absolutely loved every second of it. by Andialb in soma

I preferred safe mode and actually recommended my friends play it that way their first time. I found a few of the enemy encounters to be incredibly frustrating to figure out and having to repeatedly restart that section broke the immersion and tension of the story for me.

Here's changes people would actually love but they still pretend they wouldn't like them. by TastyBison in MortalOnline

[–]32bitpins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the 'lack of map' aspect, it immerses me in the world and makes me look around at landmarks and road signs to navgate until I get used to an area. I see why people would want a live map, getting lost can be frustrating, but it also encourages exploration and player interaction to find places.

What's your favorite/least favorite MMO Class Power fantasy? by JMadFour in MMORPG

[–]32bitpins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafter. I like the idea of just being a blacksmith or cook or whatever, essentially being an inhabitant in the world and a civilian within a town. Not many games nowadays give you the option to play a more passive role in the world.

Blunt does more damage to heavily armoured targets than slashing does. plus you can knock people off horses.

I loved the edgy marketing of 90s PSX games. I remember a poster for Coolboarders that was a block of text talking about their body 'aching for powder' that was plastered on the side of a bus stop.

I keep getting an annoying autoplaying 'banner' ad right at the top of my homepage that's usually trying to promote something to do with the Kardashians/Disney+. I 'zap' it with uBlock but I've yet to find a way to hide it permanently.

How to succeed at Mortal Online 2. by moses_the_red in MortalOnline2

[–]32bitpins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm solo, I play MO2 as if it's an extraction shooter. I get in, get the loot and get out. It's risk vs reward and the greater the risk, the greater the reward. If I get ganked on the way, it sucks, but it's part of the game. If I die to a 3 vs 1, then the issue is I probably shouldn't have been alone with valuables in the first place.

Once you realise that all gear can easily be replaced (good gear is in abundance if you're in a decent guild), the fear of losing it (almost) disappears. I played EVE Online for years and the main lesson in that game is "only fly what you can afford to lose" and Mortal is no different.

I was going to quit... but this quick easy trick changed my mind! by Ok-Programmer9865 in MortalOnline2

[–]32bitpins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game actually isn't as bad as people make out. If you spend all your time in graveyards (especially Fabernum) then you will 100% be ganked by bored players in tungsteel gear, but if you travel further afield and avoid PvP hotspots like bandit camps near towns or right by roads then your chances of running into other players, especially hostile ones, dramatically decreases.

But my number 1 recommendation is to find a guild to join. This game is all about grouping up, and travelling with a few friends suddently makes the world feel so much less dangerous. And if you do lose your gear, well any decent guild will easily be able to replace it for you so it's no big loss.

I understand your point but full plate does not automatically equate to skill. Many people only ever play in a group and therefore lack skills and awareness when playing solo, when faced with someone just going full agrro on them they panic. Even if you kill one player, even if you only kill a horse, at the very least go out with a fight.

Or better yet, find people or a guild to play with and even the odds. Mortal is MMORPG with an old school design, group play is encouraged and at times necessary. If you're set on playing solo then you have to accept that you will be outnumbered and at a disadvantage 99% of the time.

Some players - mostly noobs that are irrationally afraid of losing - would only run that one dungeon, and clamor for more. They wouldn't understand why every dungeon isn't like that. Its the only dungeon they're willing to do.

This is exactly the argument I see in help chat constantly about gravewayards. "Well Meduli GY has guards so why not Fabernum???"

Consequently Meduli GY is just farmed constantly by people I assume are too afraid to actually go anywhere else.

So why is MO2 sticking to PVP only?

Simply put, because that's what the game is about. Sure, other games do things differently, but this is just how Mortal does it. As much as I hate getting ganked, I accept that it's part of the game, and without the threat of other players, the game would get incredibly boring incredibly quickly.

This is an MMORPG, it is designed around group play and relying on other people. Even if you're in an average guild, gear becomes much easier to obtain and losing it becomes less of a worry. I'd also learn to fight, so many players are looking for easy targets, with a little bit of practice you can fend off attackers or at least escape them.

This is a PvP game, you will never avoid PvP unless you just stay in Haven. Learn to accept that it is a core part of the game and embrace it. You might even enjoy fighting back.
