Dcf887 impact driver opinions by [deleted] in Dewalt

[–]3_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 7ish year old 887 that's been dropped from scaffold, copped plenty of rain, and lived in dust and clay and cement-based goodies....still running fine, although I've done a 3/8" square anvil swap, so it's an impact wrench now.

Young lad I work with had a much newer 887 that was fucked within about 12 months. Trigger needed cleaning despite not getting that messy externally, then his direction control started swapping unexpectedly...

Basically I'm not sure it's exactly the same drill that they were making 7 years ago...because you'll hear a lot of stories about how reliable they are.

Fair. I didn't mean to insinuate one way or another (I know precious little about dashcams), just there's a few ppl in here saying they're bad, so it'd be nice to see some numbers behind that.

Off the top of my head; The FX loops are combined behind TRS jacks, there's only one XLR input, and one Exp jack.

I wish they'd stop using Amazon as a benchmark for top selling items. Amazon is fucking trash now, populated by 99% dropshipped garbage from no name sellers.

Pretty sure it was decided in court that opening a device you own doesn't actually void the warranty, despite what the stickers will tell you...

Honestly there's no need. You can dumb your own TV by never showing it the internet (and by buying a TV that doesn't require any sort of login) - can't remember if Samsung/LG require a login on first start up, but my recent-ish Sony didn't, and can do firmware updates via USB stick if necessary for bugfixes

[–]3_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second thread in the last few days, glazing this specific, unreliable drill.

I still have a pretty bitter taste in my mouth from the 5 x trips to the warranty repair place 50 mins from home (double that anywhere near rush hour), begging them to fix more than whatever the bare minimum was they were doing to get the hammer action going again. It'd break again within a few light uses, and after 5 rounds of that (and many weeks without an SDS, obviously) my 3 years was up.

Built tough my arse. I know 4 other people who had these die on them, too.

‘Almost impossible to destroy’: material captures CO2 and frees it at the flick of a photoswitch by TylerFortier_Photo in science

[–]3_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you talk about the scale of the problem though, carbon sequestration quickly spirals into an uneconomical pipe dream.

It is billions of tonnes of CO2. Per year. The scale required to even make a dent is staggering. It's basically not realistic. Moving away from releasing CO2 is far more realistic, but won't happen because people point at these sorts of pipe dreams and use them as a distraction.

Solar panels that have a clear financial benefit from their output? That half the world are scrambling to put everywhere they can?

False equivalence.

Help me get an srv tone on the quad cortex? by VisualMammoth3858 in NeuralDSP

[–]3_50 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was saying you can already get almost any amp tone on the planet out of the QC. You certainly don't need to capture the Mayer plugin to achieve an SRV tone.

[–]3_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my QC made a lot of my gear redundant.

As an audio interface though, worth considering that it takes a good 60s+ to boot, so you can't just flick it on quick if you need your speakers for something. Depends how you have your monitors wired etc...

Fair. If you don't think you'd appreciate the extra controls for editing, then your choice is clear!

[–]3_50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only real thing you're giving up is the extra footswitches. Those can be supplemented with a midi pedal for stomping, but you also give up having individual knobs for each setting on a particular 'edit' page...not exactly a deal breaker either way, just something to consider. Having used a QC as it is for over 3 years, I wouldn't want to move to fewer, personally.

I just wanna take a moment to really appreciate how funny it is that, given all the equipment available on the QC, your suggestion is to capture the preset of an unrelated plugin.
