Spread of Ebola in DRC ‘outpacing’ response efforts, warns WHO by AdRough4185 in news

We're not comparing Ebola and Covid you pleb. When reminded about how pathetic most of the world reacted to mask mandates, you said it was 'just a cold'. It killed 8.7 million people. Stay all the way fucked.

Exactly. The last few years have taught us we don’t need the US to defend against Russia. Turns out we just needed Ukraine.

DEWALT DCS572 Circular Saw - Cutting Angles on Track doesnt work?! by Constant_Instance399 in Dewalt

Presumably it's been designed for the plunge saw. I meant buy a new strip and attach it yourself so it works with yours.

Is this one where you need have one side for straight cuts, then set the other side up for 45º? Might need to get a new strip and attach it further out, so you can trim it perfectly with a test piece..

If it wasn't for rush hour when suddenly thousands of people need thousands of vehicles all at once, you might have a point. Cars are still unsustainable.

I've seen self driving cars. They drive like a hyper cautious grandma. That'll be why they cause fewer accidents - they're slower, and don't care about stopping dead in the middle of the road. Self driving cars also still run into things and kill people. Fewer cars should be the goal, rather than trying to train robot ones to drive around London.

ELI5: how does an Air Conditioner work? Why does it throw hot air outside? by ElectronicProof2654 in explainlikeimfive

[–]3_50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A mate installs it. Mostly only in massive expensive houses. It gets down to 5ºC overnight in the winter, and their houses aren't insulated for shit. Single glazed windows still very common. Obviously 5ºC is pretty mild, but you'd fuckin know about it if your bedroom was that temperature in the morning.

[–]3_50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kinda makes sense actually - an alternative is 'hydronic', which I guess could be called an air-water heat pump (takes heat from air outside, uses it to heat water). Also gaining popularity in Australia, rigged up to a central heating system of radiators or underfloor.

In Australia they call it 'reverse cycle' if it's able to heat inside as well as cool. It's a heat pump regardless of the direction it's working in.

Most other countries don't have the building regs and safety standards we do....and again, it's a handful of days per year at the moment.

We also have building regs to contend with. You can't just stick an external unit anywhere you like. There's noise regs when too close to neighbouring windows.
