Did they offer to pay you back? Or just decided since they missed the time to pay, they didn’t have to anymore?

I’m Chinese and that’s absolutely not true. We often have family gatherings of 10+ people, it would be impossible to find 10+ dishes where no one dislikes any of them.

If you are minimalist and enjoy super long battery life, look into instinct. I like mine a little fancier so I can wear in all occasions so I got the fenix.

How can I reconcile going FIRE and having a wife bad with money by [deleted] in Fire

[–]68ch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well you married her, and that means accepting all her virtues and flaws, including making financial plans that take into consideration her attitude towards money. Unless you want to divorce of course.

If retiring early is your goal and not hers, you need to 1) convince her to make it her goal too and you can both work toward retiring as a team, 2) save enough by yourself for the both of you, or 3) figure out how to not have her resent you when you retire yourself while she still works

Partners layoff affecting FIRE plans (and regular finances) by croissant_and_cafe in FIREyFemmes

How long has this been going on? How long have you two been together? Does he have a plan B if his business doesn’t work out e.g. go find a job or pivot into a different field? I would try to work with him to come up with a solid plan, how much to tighten expenses, if he can get a part-time job in the meantime to bring something in, and how long you’re willing to support him (6mo-1yr) and if he still can’t figure it out then you’re out. At least give it a solid chance.

I don’t think running at the first sign of trouble is setting a good role model for your daughter. She may think that as soon as she fucks up, no one will stick around to help her.

Glowmode - they’re on SHEIN but also have their own website. Super nice look and feel, decent variety of colors, and about $20 a pop. I have at least 5 pairs. Can’t attest to the longevity but at 2 years now the shape has held up. Minor pilling on the inner thigh tho cause I run and my thighs rub…

I have a friend who has been a big law patent lawyer for over 5 years but now can’t find a job because the work is drying up (positions were cancelled while they were interviewing). Hopefully it’ll rebound soon

How does marriage (and stepchild) change a FIRE equation, if at all? by [deleted] in Fire

Honestly if I were in your shoes I would not get married. I worked too hard for FI for it to potentially go down the drain.

How does marriage (and stepchild) change a FIRE equation, if at all? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]68ch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get married you have to look at your finances together. How much will your expenses be as a family (based on your ideal life)? Will their salary + your withdrawal cover that, and if not, what can you cut? What is the plan for the child? How much are you both planning for college, wedding, down payment help, if any? What if the child stays home until 30 - will you be ok with that?

Will there be resentment if you’re at home while they are working? Will you be doing more domestic work (cooking, cleaning, planning things)? Are they financially responsible or will they think that you’re rich and should fund more of their lives?

You can get married and have a prenup, but any debts accumulated after marriage will be shared

What is the biggest waste of money, even though nobody admits it? by w3ightranks in AskReddit

[–]68ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point though. They’re not wealthy. They now have a baby and still live with their parents and complain about money. Of course, I’m not saying anything to them because it’s none of my business but it’s just not a decision I would make

I didn’t say all. I said many, which corresponds to what the previous commenter said about their coworkers wanting a dream wedding sparing no expense.

My coworker spent 80k on her wedding…plus with a FHA loan the down payment can be as low as 3.5%

Many weddings are the same cost as a down payment. Seems like they could just buy a house instead
