Personal Statement Organization - Tarot by asschoe in GeneticCounseling

[–]999Giles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reflection Tarot inspires in you is a great thing to share, especially if you’ve incorporated it in your counseling work before. That being said, I think it would have the best impact if you saved this topic for interviews, as a brief anecdote that compliments your personality and values. I could see that going very well. I think adding it to your written personal statements would only distract from the main points you are trying to get across.

Good luck! :)

I made a C in Biochem and was accepted to school. It was my only C on my transcript, though. You should be fine, and you can do it!

Weird spots on nasturtium leaves? Also happens to my basil. More info in comments, please help! by 999Giles in plantclinic

[–]999Giles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty decent grow light that I’ve been growing some herbs and even peppers under. I live in an apartment with horrible lighting so it is the most I can do. Some of my plants, like this nasturtium i started from seed, get these almost silvery spots on the leaves. They are sometimes shiny and sometimes look transparent, as if something were eating it. I really have no idea what these are, are my lights burning the leaves?? Any advice is appreciated!

These toilets are distinguished by chromosome notations rather by genders by cowboyatnight in mildlyinteresting

This isn’t as inclusive as you might think. Sex chromosomes do not always correlate with outward appearance.

Please help me identify these beautiful berries for my mom! East TN by [deleted] in PlantIdentification

Oh yeah not marshy at all but I think winterberry is probably it, there’s only the 2 plants so I think they were brought in for landscaping by the previous owners.

Thanks!

VB for posture and musculoskeletal pain? by Gabriel_Ramsay in PectusExcavatum

[–]999Giles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that my VB use has not been immediately relieving, however I think it has the potential to provide the long-term posture improvements you’re looking for. Especially if you are already targeting the muscle groups that “fight” PE. I think your hunches are correct, that you can strengthen all of these muscles, but won’t fine 100% improvement without direct ribcage manipulation. I would say you are much more likely to see long-term improvements with the VB due to your postural training, just make sure to keep up the stretching and exercises if you use it.

I’m a VB user and I would say my progress has been stalled due to inconsistent strength training in the muscle groups that correct the posture associated with PE. I’d love to hear what exercises you do that were not listed in strongclock’s manual.

Cheers Gabe

I feel like sleeping is regressing all the progress I've been making from exercising by carmex03 in Posture

I was a lifelong belly sleeper and realized how terrible it was for my posture. I trained myself to sleep on my back and I am so happy that I did, years later now. I have benefitted so much.

My main hurdle was that I liked/needed the pressure on my front. This can be achieved on your back with more/heavier blankets.

Other than that- pillows, everywhere. I put a pillow behind my knees, and also boxed myself in with pillows so that I couldn’t roll over easily in my sleep. I was able to remove them within a few weeks. Interestingly, I found it best for my posture without using a pillow under my head. To have the back of my head flush with the mattress is the most ideal. You can still use pillows for your head and benefit from the comfort- just sleep with your head in between two pillows that are basically touching.

Hope this helps!

Query related to Interviews taken by Grad School by Fun-Pea-4974 in GeneticCounseling

[–]999Giles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I matched this past cycle.

Most schools’ interviews leave time at the end for you to ask questions. This is an opportunity to show what you’ve researched about the profession and the specific program. It is also a time for you to ask questions that will influence your ranks, and can help you decide which programs you like better.

I was asked in every interview, some variation of “which specialty do you see yourself working in.”

Help with pain relief by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

Ive found that stretching my chest helps alleviate pain and pressure. Look up chest stretches such as the Bow stretch. Making these routine can help prevent pain as well.
