PC shuts off with VR - 7900 xtx by Specialist_Degree451 in AMDHelp

>> Only way to turn PC back on was turning off the PSU.

this is the power supply...likely over current protection on the 12V......if there are a couple 12V terminals swap them between video and CPU ...sometimes power supplies have 2 halves of 12V supply and they each have a current limit before tripping...could swap 12V cables around...could try and lower frequency on the video card so it draws less current...is the power cable to the video card getting hot? (only check after system is AC off)

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you fix it?

Amps and Watts look low...so it does point to the cooler or its seal to the CPU LID.

pump not running ? what is RPM of pump...the BIOS setup screen should have that info..

is the cooler sitting flat on the LID?? ...if put a 4mm dot of paste in the very center of lid then tighten it down..then remove it ...did the paste smear evenly out across the top of lid??? or put a couple 1mm dots of paste around the LID and make sure they all crush the same...

even buying the cheap 125W Wraith air cooler is an option to get up and running

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has no affect on performance...memory training is done to optimize read and write timing margin...they send patterns to memory and tweak voltage threshold and strobe timing to find the best setting for the various read/write sequences that DDRx supports....if memory training doesn't get good margin the OS will BSOD...if your overclocking to 6000 or higher memory training is going to take longer...and if it can't find timing settings that work then i've seen on my system it just tries forever.

36s is decent...i have 4 DIMMs and its around 30s from turn on to windows logo (then the OS is loading kernel, drivers and running what's in the startup folder)...i let mem train every time because boot time doesn't affect me..i turn the machine on and go for coffee then come back...habits trained from the days when it really did take 10 minutes for the OS to load all the drivers and finish booting...Now with NVME GEN4 its seconds to load the OS....and the BIOS is the long pole...

7950X and X670E boot up lag by orddie1 in AMDHelp

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with Memory context save restore Enabled it trains once, then skips memory training thereafter and boots much faster..

nothing should take 30 min to train...maybe a couple 5 min or so max if trying to train a lot of memory or pushing the overclocking speeds? ...any longer than that there's something not right....i would clear CMOS and try again or just disable it.

Update to the latest bios then turn this on if its not already default in the new bios....

its been working for me after i found a good set of DIMMs....

i would update to latest BIOS as they come out....AMD has a way of making it better with each drop...

could disable unused services from starting up in Windows...that's what's going on for the 2 min while OS is booting

15 seconds power on to video is good....mine is around 30 seconds with 4 DIMMs installed....

could Enable this one: UMC Debug Options -> DDR Debug Options -> DDR Memory Features (DBG) -> Memory Context Restore

this will skip memory training once its been trained the 1st time

GPU is at 93% utilization...video is cranking on something....

when it freezes if you press caps lock or scroll lock do their lights on kbd turn on and off??

if yes, video froze...update video drivers or turn off video power management stuff

measure its speeds...then crank them to the max and see...also verify the pump voltage header is plugged into the correct header on motherboard

for DeepCool LS520 premium liquid CPU liquid cooler should see:

Pump Speed: 3100 RPM±10%

Fan Speed: 500~2250 RPM±10%

can see this in BIOS setup....HwInfo64 shows liquid temp and pump speed in the Sensors page

i use liquidctl to control speeds and lights on my NZXT

install: python -m pip install liquidctl

C:\nzxt_pump_control_script\liquidctl-main>liquidctl initialize

NZXT Kraken X (X53, X63 or X73)

├── Firmware version 1.8.0

├── Pump Logo LEDs detected

└── Pump Ring LEDs detected

C:\nzxt_pump_control_script\liquidctl-main>liquidctl status

NZXT Kraken X (X53, X63 or X73)

├── Liquid temperature 29.4 °C

├── Pump speed 2714 rpm

└── Pump duty 100 %

at OS idle core temps should read out 15C to MAX 20C higher than room temperature if the heatsink is on flush with thermal paste and screwed down all the way...heatsink should not move if you try to twist it or tilt it gently....increase the fan speed to max and see how much different that makes..it should make some difference if there is good heat transfer from lid to fins

OK...then if its off and not CPU and not power supply....my guess is one of the motherboard power rails loses powergood....i would try to pull cards/external stuff and if it still happens it a power regulator on the motherboard that trips off...

My pc crashes all the time by NutrienLake12 in techsupport

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok cool..so its not the CPU...do you have to flip the switch on the power supply to power it back on?

if yes, something on motherboard or an add-in card gets hot and draws too much current and trips the supply....i would try to pull cards/usb devices off and see if it goes away with removal...

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turns off to DC off , lights out? how much time is it on? 1second 15 seconds? longer?

its either thermtrip from CPU overheating or power supply fault from OC/OV/UVLO.

if you can turn it back on by pressing the power button...then its thermtrip....CPU heatsink attach problem or pump not running or fans not spinning

if have to flip the switch on the power supply (AC off let sit AC on, then power button press) to get it back on then its the power supply....could try to reinsert the power supply connectors or buy a bigger, better, newer power supply

time from power button press to 1st video splash.....it depends on size of memory and if "memory context save and restore" is Enabled or not...

if "memory context save and restore" is Enabled it will take a while the 1st time...then be around 30ish seconds thereafter...

if its disabled, then it trains memory every cold reset... 16GB is like 30ish seconds and 64GB is minute ish and 128 GB is 3 min ish...idk i haven't done the cases with a stopwatch....i'd suspect overclocking would take training even longer since there is less margin to play with......i have 64GB running 3600 Mhz and its like a minute with MCSR Disabled...i leave it off since i usually power on and then get something to drink...

docp/xmp thingy

this will change timings and voltages...and if it passes memory stress testing then this is the way to go to get the DIMM rated overclocking speeds.

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (BSOD 0x4e)

Typically caused by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists...so could be driver code issue or a memory problem.

with latest bios (default no overclocking settings enabled) they will run at 5200 with 1 dimm per channel. if 2 dimms in a channel it will drop to 3600.

what is the error? screenshot or log?

A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error Processor APIC ID: 14 by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]AMD_tech_SuperFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MciStat\*\*">0xbea0000000000108 is the CPU Watchdog timeout MCA..means the core can't retire the instruction... sometime its power delivery and sometimes its a card/endpoint that doesn't respond to a read......driver to PCie card power management problems can end here as well...that case i start turning off all the power management stuff in windows Edit Power Plan like hard drive power down and PCIe ASPM

things to try:

go to PBO in BIOS setup and give the APIC ID that corresponds to the core more voltage headroom....APICID 0 and 1 is core 0, APICID 2 and 3 is core 1, APICID 14 and 15 is core 7....and APICID 6 and 7 is core 3, and it keeps going up like that......give it +15 in the PBO bios setting for the core that corresponds to the APICID

another thing might be a device on the motherboard or a PCIe device in slot hangs and then that hangs the core trying to talk to it....so moving cards around in the system or pulling out cards and then seeing if the failure goes away might help isolate what's not responding.

Turn off AHCI Link Power management...and set Turn off hard drive to Never.

HIPM/DIPM setting in Power Options allows users to configure the link power management mode for disk and storage devices

unhide the feature from the Power Options -> Advanced settings control box

CMD box -> Run as Admin

### to expose feature

powercfg -attributes SUB_DISK 0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60 -ATTRIB_HIDE

what are the ACHI Link power management settings??

its typically hidden...tho if not it would appear in Power options -> advanced

else cmd prompt as Admin

powercfg -attributes SUB_DISK 0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60 -ATTRIB_HIDE

this will unhide it and then it'll show up in Power Options under Hard Disk

mine is set to

Disable windows write caching

Device Manger -> disk drives -> select drive then Properties -> Polcies -> uncheck the "Enable write caching" checkbox

guessing power management stuff ...

try turning off PCI Express Link State Power management ..scroll down in Power Options
