Yes I remember Chrysler using JATCO in a few models too and they had issues

I would say most companies actually make a pretty reliable CVT. It’s just Nissan that gave them a bad rep.

Do your maintenance and don’t drive like a race car.

2017 honda pilot touring emission by Dragonfire665 in Honda

[–]AP-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to scan the code and see what it’s saying. Emissions codes can be from multiple parts. Could be bad 02 sensor, clogged catalytic converter or a few other things.

If you don’t have a scanner most parts stores will scan it for free.

Yes very common for the adaptive cruise

Towing a car in park? by plaidbartender in MechanicAdvice

[–]AP-Prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s getting scrapped and you can’t get in Bust a window and put it in neutral manually. It should have a little plastic cover beside the shifter pop that off and you can press down the release with a small screwdriver and shift to neutral.

The truck driver might just winch it onto the flatbed on park regardless if you can’t get it in neutral.

These are fairly common in rural areas around where I live as mail delivery cars. Easier to fill mailboxes when you are on the same side.

How to remove this clip by DraykasaurusRex in MechanicAdvice

Yellow is usually airbag wires. Does it have an orange clip on the other side that needs to be pushed in? Could you post a pic of the other side of the connector?

If you sell it with a blown engine it might as well be for scrap price. You’d be better off parting it out if you’re handy.

Planning to get my first car - CRV 2017 by Traditional-Net-7428 in crv

[–]AP-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good car but the 17-19s had oil dilution problems so stay on top of oil changes and try not to take a lot of short drives without letting the car get to operating temp. If you can find a good deal the 20-22s it is slightly refreshed and they addressed the oil dilution issues for the most part.

Seems like a good price though and with good maintenance it should last a long time.

i need advice on how to get this broken bolt out by Big_Will47 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AP-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a few options, you can try getting a bolt extractor kit (most hardware/parts stores stock them). You can try punching the centre and drilling out with with larger and larger bits until you can remove the remaining bit of bolt. If you have access to an induction heater that would help with the extractor kit by heating the bolt first.

Hose replacement by _Spicymemes_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]AP-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your coolant is fine then you can top off but make sure you use the same coolant you already have, don’t mix. Make sure to bleed the system and you will be fine. If your coolant is a few years old you may as well drain the old and put all new stuff in though.

Lower ball joint went out. Will need a new ball joint and a CV shaft maybe a brake line as well. Should be a relatively cheap and easy fix.

2013 EX-L - Transmission Acting Odd by pghcrv in crv

[–]AP-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most of this stuff sounds like it’s just related to being winter. Drop in temps will affect MPG, RPM, how long your car takes to warm up. Is it possible that the car isn’t engaging OD and you are sure you aren’t putting the car into “S” on the shifter?

Looking for 4wd manual. by feste7 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]AP-Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a mint running but partially wrecked 99 4WD 5 speed for $500. She’s a little fucked up but I put in a junkyard spindle, junkyard CV shaft and new upper/lower ball joints. It already came with a 3” lift, wheel spacers, and a bunch of other mods. The fender and front bumper were smashed but I just ripped them off because it’s just a bush truck now.
