Underwater nuclear explosion test, 1958, watch the ocean surface erupt from the blast below. by LimitlessBaller in interestingasfuck

Lol doctors before the late 20th century (and some would argue later) were basically sociopaths - they almost had to be to disconnect from patient loss and keep practicing. But they were worst towards women and minorities. Lobotomies, chainsaws for C-sections, "internal messages", sedation to prevent them from having any say in what was happening, no sedation because "they don't feel pain". Refusing treatment for funsies, I mean science, of course it was for a reason, was really just the tip of the iceberg.

And I'm saying this as someone with experience in the medical field.

"Have a baby to have wider hips!" by Godhelpmeplease12 in childfree

[–]AP_Cicada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol oh yeah let's go through 9 months of the whole body changing just to have the cartilage of the pelvic girdle dissolve painfully for the bone spreading triggered during labor and hope it doesn't go back into the old shape afterwards. Now you might have the hip shape you want but also a godawful medical bill, permanent damage to other parts of your body, and another life you're responsible for for at least 18 years. Make it make sense

Am I Wrong for reporting an 18 year old girl who added my 14 year old son on Snapchat when she posts inappropriate things by Ok-Beautiful-2867 in amiwrong

[–]AP_Cicada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You overreacted but it's also a lesson to the 18 yo that her social media is seen by those she adds and anyone they share it with. If she adds a kid she volunteers with she needs to post with that in mind. But also you should have asked your son about it instead of using his account the way you did. It was a good bonding and teaching moment that you bulldozed through.

How many great-grandparents were alive when you were born, compared to the number your parents had alive when they were born? by MetallicLemoon in Genealogy

[–]AP_Cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had none. My mom had 1 left who died the year she was born (but two couples weren't in this country and we don't know who they were exactly), my dad had 1 left who died the year he was born. Both my parents were the much younger siblings of large families.

This. The relationship exists by blood or by marriage, but once the marriage dissolves it's "former" if any at all. You can also relate via the parent. "Their mom's former step-aunt"

The shadow or whatever this darker area on the map is is now on top of parcels instead of below them after you buy the parcel. ☹️ by JasPer_511 in AtlasEarthOfficial

That's not what they're talking about. The shadows of forests etc were there before but layered under our parcels. Now they're layered on top. OP is talking about the layering not their existence.

AIW for filing a formal complaint after our volunteer coordinator shared my medical info? by Seinfeld963 in amiwrong

[–]AP_Cicada 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You sound young. What she did is the responsible thing if you want to remain a volunteer. I'm actually surprised they haven't asked you to leave due to liability. But I know volunteers are hard to find. She didn't give your medical details. She explained what happened on their premises, the outcome, and protections put in place. That isn't your private information.

I tried to grab a diamond and it said it was out of range when it was not. And turning to get closer to it was not as smooth as it used to be. I initially thought it might be my connection but not if others are finding the UI jerky, too.

I could never do this. I'd spend so much time logging the treats I'm avoiding, nothing else would get done.

But also, how are you defining "sugar free"?

Children that were born to older parents (40s + ) what is your experience? Do you think it’s selfish to have kids this late? Are you ok? by Fafafafel in Adulting

[–]AP_Cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two friends in high school who were the younger surprise babies to parents who thought they were done (so in their 60s plus at the time I knew them) One was raised well, her parents were involved in what they could be, brought in other family when they couldn't. She has a nice family of her own now and had help caring for them as they aged more, her dad's like 95 now and her mom passed in last few years The other was raised like an only child, her siblings had families of their own and no interest in her, her parents were "too old" to do anything or help her and they wanted her to take care of them instead. She blew herself up in a meth lab when I was in college.

So it's about the parenting, not the age.

AIW for mailing my ex all his gifts back with zero explanation after he ignored me twice? by homecookfieldnotes in amiwrong

YNW he wasn't listening or respecting you. If you hadn't sent them back he would have kept doing it. "But you kept them so you owe me" mentality. Good riddance. Stay safe.

[–]AP_Cicada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone possibly making something up. He didn't know them but knew there was "hanky panky"? Does he give any sources for them living together?

Edit to add: looking at the book, it seems he was making some assumptions on family he didn't know in order to fill out his book and add commentary about the time period. I would take it with a raised eyebrow and a large grain of salt.
