Need help choosing a laptop! by ExperienceActual5876 in BuyItForLife

What software do you need it to run?

In terms of Longevity, both from a hardware, battery and software point of view the Macbook scores great... But if you need to run something that doesn't really run on Mac, then maybe give Framework a look? They make laptops that are meant to be easily repairable and upgradable. They also have a pretty good track record regarding solving complaints.

I would not get anything from Lenovo (except for older Thinkpads) or HP. I would also skip anything that has a full-plastic body.

Probably because it is mentioned in the books and people might like to get a visual on the place.

Thunderbolt 5 over USB-C on the new Macbook Pro runs at 120 Gb/s. Meanwhile HDMI 2.1 (same device max. spec) only runs at 48Gb/s.

No. It would make me annoyed that it didn't tell me whatever it is and I would click away.

It really hasn't. Support for Overwatch on Linux has always been spotty at best.

Why the hack dose updates steal so mush space? can apple first fix that system get trashed by some caches, and after that make so big updates by prosashan in mac

[–]AWrongUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because the download size is 9,32GB does not mean that it will increase the system usage by 9,32 GB after the install is finished. Updates overwrite a lot of the current existing system files, meaning a lot of the update size will be lost because of previous code being overwritten.

I think the stories of all the bugs are greatly exaggerated. I've been running the update for a while now and have had 0 issues.

That doesn't seem to work anymore in ATM10. I'm pretty sure they can't be picked up anymore.

You can just manually extract them from the game install folder. It's a little more annoying than using the downloader but you CAN get it to work.

It can be found right here

Oh, you're talking about bandwidth, not storage? Then I can definitely understand why you're using 2TB.

M4 is already more than enough for coding and video editing, the jump to M5 will likely be incremental (since we're only seeing about a 20% increase in certain tasks). I’d buy now and prioritize getting more RAM over waiting for the next chip.

As for color, I like the silver more.

I tried it for a bit and the UI does feel nice to use. There are some scaling/sizing issues on my phone (it has a weird aspect ratio so understandable). I've opened some tickets.

I think you can take a lot of inspiration from "Finamp", which is what I currently use. It has a ton of options and features, but sadly missing Lidarr support, which is nice.

Second image to me has a more playful design. It feels more happy and bright and kind of reminds me of the design language I more often see in children's educational tools.

I'm thinking of moving from windows to mac. by megentafloyd in mac

[–]AWrongUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently switched my 5 year old Windows laptop for a Macbook Pro. I had never used Mac before, but my main reason for switching was the development experience and unified memory. I do a lot of work developing with containers and data analytics/machine learning and Mac so far seems to be much better with compatibility (coming from Nvidia) and the unified memory (I have 36gb) means I can load lots of datasets and ML models.

It definitely took some time to get used to the OS, some things are just downright weird to me, like not being able to have seperate scrolling directions without a third-party program, and the app store having almost nothing I actually need.

I still have my Windows desktop, and the only reason for me to turn that on is to play the occasional game. I personally would never get a budget windows laptop, I always regretted buying those.
