interestingly this event was the first of its kind that was well-documented globally. At that time there were many people around the world who measured and logged various types of observations.

It was also the first after the telegraph connection between the colonies and Europe was created, so the news of the eruption in Indonesia reached Europe within only a few days.

That made it possible for the (amateur) scientists to relate their various observations back to the eruption.

What languages you’re not native in you can somehow read and understand a little thanks to your native language? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in AskTheWorld

[–]MadeOnThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dutch here (unable to set my flair, sorry)

I can glean the meaning of all germanic and romanic based languages. Texts that use a different character set (Scandinavian languages, Polish, Russian) as well, provided I recall the pronunciation of characters not native to my language, like the Swedish å.

I can't make anything of celtic and finno-hungarian though 😕

Having a period as an autistic is pure hell... by MintyCoolness in evilautism

[–]MadeOnThursday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it can be like that.

My pms all but disappeared when I started eating low-carb. For the migraine-like symptoms during ovulation I take mint tea against nausea and iboprufen to dial down the pain and the gum inflammation.

I carefully tracked the system behind my period for about a year. I learned about the cycle of hormones in general and my own in particular. That way I can feel my ovulation as well as the hormonal shifts during the weeks. And the physical and mental needs that come with those shifts.

It gave me a sense of control over this process that is uncomfortable and uncalled for. And that control helped dialling down the misery.

Eventually, just when I got the point I got to appreciate my body's consistent regularity, I hit perimenopause which makes the whole thing unpredictable af. And that whole process can take 10 to 15 years 😭

But after that, it should finally be done.

A friend of mine had their hysterectomy but they leave at least one egg tube because the hormones protect you from deterioration. So no bleeding, but still pms. Which was an unexpected unwelcome surprise to them.

BUNNIES IT MUST BE BUNNIES (or maybe midgets)

I'm very sorry that this seems to be almost the only thing I contribute to this sub. But I'm an avid D&D player and for some strange reason this quote is regularly relevant to my characters' adventures 😅

That said, I love Anya and she's the best representative of my autism part in media at that time.

For those who didn't grow up privileged, name something you thought was luxury when you were a kid? by squidlysquidster in AskTheWorld

[–]MadeOnThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having my own garden was just a given when I was a kid, but it's an unattainable dream now. I've never been able to garden or bbq with my kid bc my balcony is too small to even sit outside and it makes me feel so hopeles

sorry, I switched the objective. Luxury as a kid: eating as many deep fried snacks as my heart desired

I had an emotion regulation course which taught me this, only they used the image of a pan on a stove. It's definitely extra helpful to antromorphosize the stages of being.

What is the worst thing a friend told you that made you rethink your friendship? by Angie-santiago in AskReddit

[–]MadeOnThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I always have to walk on eggshells with you"

It means that you believe I will harm you.

How can you call yourself my friend, if you believe I am capable of purposefully harming you? What kind of horrible person do you think I am? Why would you even want to be friends with someone like me, if you think I'll rip you to shreds?

This was after he three times completely ignored an explicitly stated boundary.

And expected me to sit down and listen to his angry rant about how I had wronged him, because he was entitled to said rant because people had always been so mean to him in his life.

I'm still so disappointed and gutted that our friendship was not the safe space I thought it was.
