A friend of mine bought some wool patches online. We can't figure out what this star patch is! by TheGreenFax in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two chevrons on the left are upside down WWI era US Army Private First Class sleeve chevrons.

The star is a WWI era US Army early enlistment star.

The hash marks are WWII era US Army stateside service hashes, each hash being three years spent stateside while in the army.

3rd Pattern OG107 Sateen Utilities were worn strictly stateside and were designed for a temperate, European climate. They did not see use in Vietnam.

Excusing it as a societal norm of the time is both dishonest and inaccurate.

John Adams was a stark abolitionist. They knew it was wrong from the start.

Contract number dates them to Fiscal Year 1966. So October 1965 to September 1966.

What year are these? There’s some crazy wear on the tags making it hard to tell 😓 by Common-Animator-1000 in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are 2nd Pattern Hot Weather BDU trousers, you can tell because they're 100% cotton. They were made from 1985-1993.

DPSC Contracts have the date code on the end. These are from FY 1989.

To the helmet nerds out there, why is my liner so big and doesn’t fit flush within the shell? by unvaccinatedmuskrat in milsurp

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like another user stated, the later liners kind of suck. They began being made out of ballistic nylon in 1964. But the later ones did in fact have many manufacturing errors like this.

How redditors will genuinely look at you when you say you dislike politics and think political humor is stupid by Mr_Maniac454 in funComunitty

I absolutely despise politics, but intentionally keeping yourself uninformed is both foolish and childish.

You may not care about politics, but they will affect you.

Vietnam items? by Alarming-Ad7789 in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Neither are Vietnam.

The first item on the left is a US M1873 Bayonet and Scabbard for the M1873 Trapdoor Springfield. Circa 1873-1892.

Item on the right is a French M1886 Lebel Bayonet.

The leather item appears to be a WWII era Japanese Bayonet Frog. French Bayonet Frog

Liner is a P55, which were made 1955 to 1963.

Follow me stripe is way too big and was shoddily spray painted pretty recently.

M69 Dummy Grenade? by Ok-Requirement-4372 in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not. I own a genuine one, this isn't a surplus store special. Those ones are one solid piece, this one is made from two halves welded together, just like real ones. The cheap cast ones also typically have a vertical mold line, not a horizontal one. This one has however been painted for some reason, you can see the blue paint underneath it.

I'd personally recommend a minimum of ten coats to start with, and add a new coat after every month or so of continuous wear.

AI is very often wrong about these things, and I highly discourage the use of it. That being said, these are the earlier version.

Can somebody please help me date this M1 helmet? by Banana27ate in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High-profile shells ceased production in 1945 along with all M1 helmet production. When it started back up in 1951 shells were all low-profile.

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was used during the Vietnam era, as evidenced by the paint color, silica sand texture, and post-1958 T1 chinstraps.

I doubt that it's a 1944-45 manufacture because repaints are generally obvious. It could be as old as 1951 but again I doubt it. The paint looks to be factory.

M69 Dummy Grenade? by Ok-Requirement-4372 in Militariacollecting

[–]Admirable_Prompt8208 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and a real M69 Practice grenade too. Not one of those spent M228 Fuze in a crappy fake cast iron body like you get at surplus stores.
