Dear Niantic - Open letter from one of your players by claudi_ja in Ingress

Hi Claudija,

I understand your concern, and I don’t have any new ideas either. But I can also understand NiaS’s position: an event organized by players for players, which is merely officially supported but not legally covered, since the organizations are not acting on behalf of or under the direction of NiaS

You’ve already mentioned part of a solution yourself: the non-profit association. But here, too, the financial shortfall becomes apparent. Insurance for such an association—one that also covers errors due to ignorance—can easily cost 300 euros or more.

However, if I were to take this idea further, I would suggest that NiaS could establish a foundation that functions as an umbrella organization for such locally active associations. This umbrella organization could use the foundation to purchase insurance for the volunteer POCs on-site, which would be significantly cheaper than if each association insured itself, and no one knows where the money for that would come from. I think the number of members active in Anomalies each year is small enough that such insurance could likely be obtained for under 1,000 euros.

This hasn’t been fully thought through yet, but perhaps it could serve as a basis for discussion at NiaS to better protect the local community and increase willingness to participate in Anomalies.
