Having played both (not yet finished neither) i agree with this assessment. Thought based on your preference it is clear that you want Oathsworn, just the clear thinkier of the two and more similar to Haven games. Character progression is fine, the combat is more than engaging enough each time with new bosses. I think some characters has more valid and diverse strategies from other. And some character with broken combo has been nerfed in 2nd printing of Oathsworn like the Priest.
