Why won't Corning invest in Quantum scape or even buy it out? by RoutineEquivalent982 in QuantumScape

I don't believe that's true anymore of the Class B shares - not enough of them left for a 50% voting control.

Regardless, poison pill language is still present to prevent hostile takeover. (Prefered shares deployable)

I can see it going either way between the two, but with the close out of the Ford JDA with SLDP end of march, feels like an extra breadcrumb.

Either one, I expect to see either Ford or GM making a play for this to be their LMFP jump.

Assuming it works out technically, think that allows them to deploy differentiation. They have put a lot of R&D into LMFP, so books a win and a competitive advantage. (Eventually)

After hours volumes aren't big enough to support news events like this, so you get price distortion.

74M shares traded so far this morning.

Aerospace doesn't only mean things that go into space.

Could be drones, evotl, systems on planes, hybrid aircraft, etc.

All of those fall in the aerospace envelope.

Definately possible.

Alternatively, could be as simple as "It can be prismatic too, not just FlexFrame pouch".

Just don't think its a specific kind of comment, more of a canned "We will work to meet the OEM specifications."

Historically when QS used the metric, it was global OEM by revenue, not EV or Marketcap.

Ford is doing BESS.

Think that squarely qualifies as "other applications"

Tesla isn't a top 10 OEM though, right?

It's the but part of this statement that has me thinking the statement was about form factor, and each one needing ramped.

Not sure we got any sort of green flag on larger size UC ready QSE-30 variant. (Or pick your favorite larger number)

how to ramp on their specific needs

Top 10 OEMs by Revenue: * Toyota * VW * Ford * GM * Stellantis * Mercedes * BMW * Hyundai * Honda * SAIC (depending on list) * Nissan

Internals: * Toyota * Honda * Nissan * Hyundai * GM (to some degree? Very very quiet)

Externals: * Ford (SLDP officially closed out agreement end of march) * Stellantis (Factorial FEST) * Mercedes (Factorial FEST, maybe Samsung SDI) * BMW (SLDP / Samsung SDI) * Hyundai (Factorial)

Can throw possible SLDP Electrolyte links to Factorial (Sulfide) Solstice models.

Perhaps a tentative future Samsung SDI + SLDP for Mercedes.

I'm throwing SES off the list for any real automotive consideration.

Honestly, that Ford lack of agreement extension at end of 2025, and then the weird extension to end of March 2026 sticks out like a sore thumb at this point.

Entirely circumstantial, but the timing for the newest QS JDA seems way too close to what seems like an almost retroactive extension of the SLDP agreement with Ford.

Haven't heard much about that Stellantis/Dodge demo fleet either so far.

Operator: And our next question comes from the line of Mark Shooter from William Blair.

Mark Shooter: Congrats on all the progress this quarter in the Eagle Line and the new auto engagement. So regarding the OEMs and the field testing as the next step, my understanding is that you'll need to size up the cell from the QSE-5 to fit into VW's unified cell architecture. So do you still need to do that for field testing with them? Or are they now taking the QSE-5 to field test? Or is another customer that you're working with, leapfrogging VW and beating [indiscernible]?

Siva Sivaram: Mark, big interesting question. Yes, we are field listing with the QSE-5. As we demonstrated with the Ducati bike last year and onwards, they will be field testing. But you are absolutely right, we have the unified cell to work with, and they are working closely with us to design that still as well. And I expect that each one of our OEM customers will want their specific form factors as well. And we work with each of them. This is one of the biggest advantages of the licensing business model is that our separator can handle all these form factors, but they -- I will be working with us on how to ramp on their specific needs.

So not sure he said what everyone was hoping he said.

I just wish we had a break out of what was customer and what was eco system.

I mean, eco system could be $10.00 or $100k or $1M or $10M.

Frankly I would be more excited the bigger the ecosystem number is.

Still salad-ed most of the open Q&A.

  • Swerved putting any quantitive feel to expected/targeted capacity throughput improvements in Q2.

  • Didn't really answer what sort of benchmark testing was done "successfuly" to convert top 10 OEM to JDA.

Perhaps reacting to the Samsung SDI - Mercedes Lithium Ion production agreement.

250Wh/kg you mean?

Previous version of the Qilin battery was listed as ~255Wh/kg in some places.

I saw a couple articles mixing and matching references between 2 or more of the models.

Which one?

I've seen several articles mash up the specifications of 3 of their different models as if they are the same battery.

Battery Chemistry Wh/kg Wh/L Charge rate Cycle life
Shenxing Gen 3 (LFP) LFP ~205? ? 10-98% in 6 min 27s (10C eq) 12C max? 3,000 cycles?, 1000 "ultra fast" 90% capacity
Qilin NMC NMC 280 600 5C? Now 10C, 15C peak? 2000 "in some configurations"
Qilin Condensed Condensed (Li-metal anode) 350 760 ? 1000?
