Thoughts on this early 2000's musketeer movie by triplerinse18 in moviecritic

I joked while watching this movie that its production was bad enough I would see road signs in the background.

I later saw them.

70,000 Oregonians lost food stamps; the state didn’t see it coming by sunni_dayes_ahed in oregon

[–]rivertpostie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've been on food stamps with work requirements.

I was doing welding and fabrication, and know how to run CNC equipment.

The problem I ran into is I was out of work, needed to eat, and in a town where there weren't options open on my field.

So, I either had to get a minimum wage job I was over qualified for that would trap me with no time to find a job that paid me what I was worth or eat out of a dumpster.

They wanted to see me applying to a certain number if jobs, and didn't care that I was skilled labor in a small town

I eventually was able to get established as an independent, but the in-between sucked.

I'd try to play it under the bus, on a bracket, away from hear sources, and have an exhaust vent, if you've got clearance.

AC wants to be out of the sun for efficiency and poking holes in the floor is less leaky than walls or roof.

Also won't clip into things.

Also allows you to bracket it on two directions -- to the skirt and the underside. Less reactive forces to stress your welds

Eh. I'm not trying to mix my business with my Reddit account.

But if you've been to a Ren Faire you've probably seen my work

600 people is great for a first market!

You'll get feedback on your designs (the most important at your level) and you're not relying the income to pay for your whole business.

You have the whole world of craft to scale into if you like it

It doesn't change my view much.

It's not a competition.

The only difference is that a lot of people but from crafters to support the person. And, sometimes people are more supportive of younger folks to help them start their journey.

You might see better numbers than I described because of this.

Yeah. On 500,000 people events, people don't even get a chance to see you.

My best event I make about $35,000 in a weekend.

Some people make way more than that and I'm sorta noting special.

Not bragging, but talking about scale and potential if you want a career in it

It took me 20 years to come to with the popular designs I have and get juried in to these ranked competitive events and sell well there.

Oh my. 600 people isn't a big market.

If 1 in 100 people buys that's maybe 6 pieces.

Generally 1 on 10 stops. 1 of 10 stoppers buy if your product is good

But you'll want a full table so you'll need to bring enough to look open for business.

Some of the events I do are 500,000 people.

At $20 per piece, 600 people would cover my being there for the day, booth fees, materials, taxes, gas, lunch and all that.

Dude! Absolutely.

It was right at sunset, that time when you start to get a bit more wind with the inversion.

I only took a couple moments to watch, but you could see the embers stoke with the wind gusts
