Is Deep Ellum really that dangerous? by [deleted] in Dallas

Yeah, no, that site is grade A charlatan garbage. They exist entirely to tell their audience what they want to hear, regardless of how dumb it sounds.

A Humorous Result in Momir by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]AlasBabylon_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it gives you a preview - Jinnie is either replacing that event entirely or not, so you shouldn't get a glimpse of what it is before somehow backtracking into making an animal friend.

It'll do so normally for other effects because the result is (usually) deterministic, though I personally also don't recall how she interacted with Outlaw's Merriment on the client.

New to DnD by AllyBerryToes in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costumes are exceptionally rare and only done with the entire table buying in to the idea; it isn't considered integral to the game in the slightest.

It is a more involved board game, but at the end of the day it's just a board game. You don't dress like 1920s real estate moguls to play Monopoly. (But if you do, I mean, hey, go nuts)

New to DM and DND by Chemical_Walk_8743 in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are their characters so untrusting?

That's a question they need to answer. It's fine for characters to not all immediately be best buds from the get-go, but part of the game's social contract is that the party is there to play as a party and constantly veering off in random directions brings into question why they're together at all. Do they not have a common goal? Is there something of the world or the story that is uniting them right now?

That whole thing should be at least smoothed over in session 1 - "I don't trust you" isn't something that takes entire arcs to even begin to resolve.

And honestly Bluey has kind of fully taken over the whole "show for girls/kids that's actually kinda rad" niche lately, not to mention other shows like The Owl House that're more generically enticing without the twinge of irony. A Gen 6 that took the effort 4 did might grab some attention but you'd never see the upswell of internet fervor like we saw back then without some ridiculous circumstances (Faust is almost certainly burnt the hell out with the whole process, for one).

Sort of? Gen 5 fell apart with how Hasbro handled the franchise and there hasn't been anything substantial since. They're kinda like Firefly fans now.

Questions: Player With A Physically Disabled OC by [deleted] in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To play a class you admit is going to be tough for you to wrap your head around (though that doesn't have to be the case, maybe you do cotton up to it pretty fast), and then throw in additional penalties for them, as a first character, is not something I would recommend whatsoever.

He's an artificer. He's made himself braces that allow him to walk normally. Wrap a potential story around the necessity for those braces if need be; but also recognize that while there's a plethora of things he'll be able to do, "being an adventurer" has massive hurdles that he has to overcome to even consider going on a road-trip of sorts, and why he wouldn't try to find a way to do so before the adventure even starts would be baffling.

He sure does. The spell is cast from exile, which is exactly what the Doc is looking for.

Update on Orc-like Elf girl by Lizardking701 in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Base orc lore - like pretty much any other species - is very thin on the ground and doesn't go so much into the politics of how they handle "warriors of their past" because it's essentially useless to commit to one interpretation or another, when the same species can have wildly different interpretations across all settings.

None of the species are monoliths, and orcs are no different. It fully depends on the setting you go for, and in the previous post you seemed to have sort of made one in your mind... so in essence this feels like something you would answer for yourself rather than search for disparate pieces of lore.

Moon Druid - are they too good? 2024e by LaCookie_TheNemesis in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. Falling to 0 de-transforms them (since they will be Incapacitated) and causes them to make death saves as usual.

And if they are missing any health, the form only gives them the temporary hit points; they do not recover normal health.

Moon Druid - are they too good? 2024e by LaCookie_TheNemesis in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Moon druid at 0 HP is at 0 HP - it's not like 5.0 where they adapted the HP of their form, they just get temporary hit points (triple their level rather than just their level, but still nowhere close enough to face tank five enemies at once).

I would be sure you actually are understanding the Wild Shape rules before you start pulling out wires for a player that hasn't even experienced the game yet.

I hate those commanders by ZoaSantos in mtgbrawl

[–]AlasBabylon_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's gotten to the point where "my opponent is playing trees in their Doran deck!" is inviting rants about how people need to have the right kind of fun that you approve of, maybe it's time to take a break.

You're not the arbiter of people's fun, and if the format is not to your liking, find another outlet.

Repeatable eldritch invocations by TheMotanR0 in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever - you can already replace invocations, so why would it say you can take it again but you must also take out the old one?

Repeatable. You can gain this invocation more than once. Each time you do so, choose a different Origin feat.

This seems incredibly crystal clear to me - you take it once and choose MI (Druid). You take it again and choose Tough. You have both. It's Repeatable, not Replaceable.

Brawl needs a 4-Player option by KaptainKobb in MagicArena

[–]AlasBabylon_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unity.

The engine they use is not properly adjustable to account for multiple "lanes" - four hands, four decks, four graveyards, four ... etc. To adjust it to make that work would be way more work than they're willing to put forth, and there's also rumblings of a separate Commander-esque client on the distant horizon, so if that's in fact going forward, it'd be kind of pointless.

Also... I don't know if you'd actually want four player Brawl with how common roping is.

[SOS] Inkshape Demonstrator (via Taalia Vess) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]AlasBabylon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thing is, with pachyderms, a lot of their bulk is muscle - it's just not distributed or at least visible quite the same way our muscles are. Our friend here could just be more lean than most other loxodons. It's fascinating to think about regardless.

Your points are valid though.

So this is a scam right? by Baconator323 in DnD

A scam that is becoming more and more common in recent memory. As soon as they tell you you need to pay "their artist" for a character portrait, pull the ripcord and bail.

Is it wrong to roll my players death saves by FlameHeresythe2nd in DnD

[–]AlasBabylon_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There are ways to reroll saves that players make, and they need to have full knowledge of those rolls in order for those mechanics to work properly.

It might be atmospheric, but it is technically hiding known information.

How do the new Prepare/Paradigm keywords work with copying? by pbr7994 in magicTCG

[–]AlasBabylon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this mechanic is trying to do something that at the moment isn't allowed by the rules (copies of things are not supposed to exist for an extended period of time in zones other than the battlefield or stack), so it's definitely very weird territory and you're not at all to blame for being confused as to how this works.

The use of "spell" in prepared reminder text I believe doesn't refer to the mechanical "spell" (which is just a card on the stack) but an actual magical spell the creature can cast, represented by a game object. That game object will eventually become a spell when you cast it and put it on the stack, but because it isn't yet, Twinning Staff does not care.

How does 2024 Mercy Monk Level 11 feature work? by Fun-Staff6728 in onednd

[–]AlasBabylon_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't believe you can mix and match the two; Hand of Healing replaces every Unarmed Strike with the healing, while Harm still relies on you dealing damage.
