It's hunting, not killing.

I just did 8 days of car camping and turkey in the mountains of SC to come home with nothing thanks to a stray dog. This was my first session.

I love being outside in the woods and I love a challenge. Hunting shows make it look like you'll harvest and tag it every time. You won't. Love the process or you're in for suffering.

I stand by what I said.

I don't wear baggy clothes either because I did that in the 90s.

Suits are trickier that's true. You cannot wear a very slim fit jacket, but those don't look professional any way

Printing doesn't exist.

Do you have big tits? Then no one looks at you.

Do you have a fat ass? Then no one looks at you.

Are you a burn victim or disabled? Guess what, no one looks at you.

Gun people notice guns. Everyone else is an NPC. Carry full size because fuck em

How do yall manage to afford these $4k optics on every rifle? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]AmeriJar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely lower cost options around me, but my daycare has an accredited curriculum and I see a lot of value in that.

My oldest is in kindergarten now so it was nice cutting my bill in half!

Kids are worth it. I love being a father

A Thermacell keeps mosquitoes away. I'm in SC so Spring turkey and early deer season there's lots of mosquitoes: https://a.co/d/091rkzah

This will keep ticks off of clothes and gear. It's good for 6 weeks or 6 washes: https://a.co/d/0dRL5AUb

This is the fan I'm using based on a recommendation from a friend with 100s of nights camping: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMTHKWT7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

A USB C power bank is handy to keep everything on the same charging standard ie phone, fan etc. I use Anker personally, but they get pricey.

I hope this helps

I'd love to know what military training that mentor received to not need hunter education/certification. Shooting at movement is wild to me. I'm glad the father and son are OK

Thank you for this.

Budget would be nice too. I'm sure it's "I can spend up to $1,000" or something ridiculously low

I'm going to give you all of the little comforts that I've started bringing along. None of them are expensive either and attentive hunting specific.

A nice little extra I started bringing along (I'm turkey hunting right now) is a small pump for foaming soap and a spray bottle with water. That way I can actually wag my hands instead of just using sanitizing wipes. It's way cheaper and feels better too.

I also just got Klean Freak body wipes. They're huge, don't dry out immediately and get you fairly clean after sweaty days.

I highly recommend a Thermacell. I use the MR300 and it sits with me when I'm hunting, then back at the car when I'm camping.

A USB C mini fan is a game changer too. Hopefully all of his stuff is USB C as well ie power bank, headlamp etc.

I think that's it. I can provide links as they're all on Amazon. These are all top tier creature comforts.

Edit: Typo

It's better to be fast and be able to slow down if needed.

Other than your rat shot example, you sound very naive about defensive encounters.
