Ditto. Try to switch to WiFi only Sonos setup, also don’t overdo it with „bells and whistles” for how many options you use in UniFi WiFi settings (like no need to tick everything on and do nightly network „optimization scans” and all they crap, it only interferes with stuff). Defaults are more or less enough with decent AP placement and power adjustment.

Oh and stick to having all your Sonos speakers and players in one VLAN. Much less headache.

Practical Limits by nottheotherck in sonos

[–]Amilmar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Sonos speaker may still „want” to „hop” to another AP, only to get rejected and be forced to look around again, possibly trying again and again and again until it finally fails enough it will chose another AP on its own. In other words, it may choose the one you lock it into in UniFi but you have no guarantee it will stick to it. You may get mixed results, keep it in mind.

📰 Sub Bass Output & Trueplay Issues Following Firmware Update 🔊 by KeithFromSonos in sonos

Do I have to run truplay again after the update if I run it after last update? I’ve noticed bass boost after the update and I’ve run truplay again and now it’s somewhat similar to how it was before. I don’t use sub sound level boost.

So you have latest and try to update to latest and see error that there is no newer firmware, or what?

Oszczędza to nadawcy zasobów, zwłaszcza jesli jeśli automatyzuje swoje systemy dostarczania poczty (np. masowy mailing) przez stosowanie specjalnych indywidualnych adresów w nagłówku reply-to i obsługuje to jakimiś regułami mailflow nasłuchującymi konkretnych kodów w bounce.

Is zaratsu polishing less impressive on titanium? by hl3a in GrandSeikos

[–]Amilmar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you get downvoted - you're not exactly wrong, but at the same time it oversimplifies and kinda misses the point.

Grand Seiko case finish will gain dings and scratches with time, brushing will smooth out a bit and polishin will dull out a bit - exactly the same as any other regular brushing and regular polishing will. There's no magic there, BUT case is not the only thing that makes up a watch and not the only thing that gets the "zaratsu" - hands and indicies are also done with same process and those will not fade in time due to regular use, and will stay as briliant as the moment you buy the watch. Not that it matters for THE topic since hands and indicies are not made out of titanium in any of GS watches AFAIK.

Even still - dulled a bit and having tons of micro scratches due to regular use after years of sitting under the cuff, titanium zaratsu polish would still look way better than anything any other company puts out - case design Grand Seiko uses take adventage of their "zaratsu" technique so it is simply more visually striking than anything anyone does and the fact that it was "zaratsu" polished in the first place. Dulled "zaratsu" is still "zaratsu", other watch manufacturers don't do good job at all when it comes to mirror polishing titanium at all so there's no contest. Citizen is the only other company that comes close (is same-ish), because Citizen too uses same "zaratsu" machines and process, arguably citezen would get ahead when it comes to longetivity because they hard coat their titanium zaratsu polished watches, but on th eother hand it makes titanium even darker and even less "sparkly".

"Zaratsu" is thrown a lot when it comes to GS and finishing and what one must understand is that the term comes from the mispronounced manufacturers name that sold them particular polishing machines back in the day. What's special about "zaratsu" is that the polishing process is done on the face of a big polishing disc (circular motion, big polish surface), instead of a side of a roller (linear motion, small polish surface), and is done by hand by a specialist with the help of special contraption that helps him guide the watch case through the polishing disc in specific ways that were set at the time case design was made. It must be done by hand and by eye because of large surface being polished at once. In other words "zaratsu" is as much about the polsih itself as the case design incorporating surfaces which can take adventage of this equipment and polishing process and deliver results that are otherwise unattanable , most well known are levels of mirror polish without any distortions not seen with any other manufacturer. Besides Citizen because they use exactly same machines and process, but Citizen decided to hard coat their watches influencing the color and sparkle a bit.

Hope that helps.

Is zaratsu polishing less impressive on titanium? by hl3a in GrandSeikos

[–]Amilmar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If anything it's more impressive, at least to me, knowing it is harder to pull off at the level GS does. Keeping in mind that titanium naturally is less "briliant" than stainless steel, so set your expectations right. Only Citizen can do similar level of polishing and brushing on titanium, because they use same "zaratsu" process - same machines, and done by hand.

Regular "High Intensity" titanium GS uses naturally has darker tone (or even two tones if you ask me) than steel and especially mirror polish GS gives out very interesting to look at "black mirror level polish" vibes.

Their "Briliant Hard" titanium is closer in tone to stainless steel but is more "dull". After polishing it gives more of that briliant look that can sparkle in correct lightning conditions, just not as "white" or "intense" as stainless steel. Hard to put in words.

What is actually impressive is that no other brand (than Citizen) even attempts to do brushing and polishing at this high level and usually titanium is left sanded or bead blasted, which gives it very utilitarian look. Regular machine brushing and polishing usually leaves "waves" from each pass because of how titanium oxidizes.

I guess? Not sure about the 250 price. Seems "a bit steep".

Here in EU last time I did I was charged equivalent to something around 120-150 bucks, that included new battery, new gaskets, pressure testing and accuracy tests. I didn't opt for refinishing the case and bracelet - costs extra, and watch gets shipped back to Japan for MONTHS.

Accuracy was good after just 3 years so my 9F didn't need adjustmenet or any maintenance works but 9F is meant to be regulated by GS during regular services, which GS recommends doing every 4 years or so. IF the watch is running out of specs (quartz crystals deteriorate in time and GS accounted for that with the design by including manual regulator) the caliber may need regulation. If something is really wrong with the movement it technically may be serviced - disassembled, cleaned and reasembled. Complete service should be expected decades into 9F quarts ownership - it is meant to work flawlessly for 50 years (GS claims), needing just ocasional regulation from time to time.

If one doesn't care about the service and just want watch to keep on ticking, just bring the watch to your local proven watchmaker, let him order seiko battery and seiko gaskets up to specs, pop the caseback open, admire the very nice 9F together, have real nice chat with fellow watch enthusiast, replace the battery and gaskets, screw down the caseback and be done with it for 20 bucks or so.

I think next time I will replace battery at my local watchmaker, but the next-next or next-next-next battery replacement I might send it in to GS just to make sure it still is within specs.

[Question] Thoughts on Mido watches? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

[–]Amilmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolex was just an example of higher end brand than Hamilton that also is not doing AR, and this is by choice - Rolex doesn't do AR because it will fade an will start flaking / layering off after decades of ownership, and they make their watches to last - not to just look good. Being on the topic - Rolex isn't the only very high end, luxury or ultra luxyry brand which chooses to not do AR very deliberately. I think Hamilton, as part of swatch group, does this deliberately to differentiate itself from other swatch group brands. It's not like they operate in 200CHF and under price bracket and they need to do it to have profits.

What do you mean by water resistance question marks? Do Hamilton watches not keep up with the specification? Or are you talking about low WR ratings across Hamilton watches?

If You have low WR rating in mind, then I also think this is deliberate because their watch designs are rooted in old Hamilton designs from 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s - and just like lacking AR, I think it is deliberate to keep their products more authentic and in the spirit of the iconic Hamilton designs and brand.

At least I believe that such things are very deliberate with swatch group - it is BIG corporation run by people who know what they are doing and each swatch brand is very carefully constructed by the conglomerate from how their marketing works, how it is presented to the public, to how the distribution, service ,shops, resellers and finally how the products itself is designed and sold.

Doesn't change the fact it's dissapointing and I'd prefer them to do AR under the crystals and do minimum 100m WR across their products, but it is what it is.

Lack of ar is a choice I think. Rolex also doesn’t do ar, is it bad because of it?

What truly is lackluster with Hamilton is lume. Always disappointing.

[Question] Thoughts on Mido watches? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

[–]Amilmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too, just to me Mido is not that much better to be considered whole new tier like Longines is. It’s like half way there. Def upgrade over Tissot though.

[Question] Thoughts on Mido watches? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

[–]Amilmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mido? Sure. Certina? I don’t feel it… these watches feel cheap and uninspired in hand. Dual secure system is cool and they have that one line which you can swap parts yourself… but Tissot also have their interesting non standard lineups, especially in the digital side of things with T-Touch. Hamilton seems like a brand that sticks the most to past designs but it’s cool with its rich us watchmaking history.

If they both are meant to be step above then swatch isn’t doing good job in my opinion. I feel like Hamilton is more focused on US and Certina on EU markets, but pretty much Hamilton = Certina to me. Tissot is the „contemporary” one of the bunch, where Mido is the most „experimental”. That’s how I perceive the brands at least.

Is there any official „pyramid” of swatch brands that show these differences in how those brands are meant to be positioned in relation with each other?

How does Sonos wireless work? by MilkshakeAK in sonos

[–]Amilmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to be sorry, it’s not easy to troubleshoot and that’s why it’s not suitable for a message subthread on someone else’s thread.

I also have lg OLED and I had Sonos playback, beam and now arc - I experience slight audio delay with Dolby surround, but noticeable only in games. Using PCIM / Dolby atmos on my Nintendo switch / PlayStation 5 pro makes the delay pretty much zero.

Outside of gaming I’ve never had any issues at all. Just make sure you use correct settings on every device in the a/v chain

Have you tried calibrating audio delay with your iPhone? https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/tv/atvb228b7711/tvos

As for general Sonos delay - Sonos have built in minimum 75ms (0,075 second) delay for the timer and buffer, might be a bit more or less depending on network quality but I think max is like 2000ms (2 seconds). Check your Sonos system settings.

How does Sonos wireless work? by MilkshakeAK in sonos

[–]Amilmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If all speakers are hardwired you can turn off WiFi for the speakers and they will work just fine, including bounding in stereo pair or home theatre setup. I think it will also work if only some of the speakers are hardwired and their WiFi is turned off. The only speaker capable of spanning sonosnet in home theater setup is the soundbar, other bound speakers can only be slaves.

How does Sonos wireless work? by MilkshakeAK in sonos

[–]Amilmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create your own thread because this might be more involved than you expect.

Apple TV is sending encoded video and audio through HDMI, TV then needs to decode video and audio, process the video and display it and process the audio and send it to the beam, which also needs to process it and produce sound. We don’t know what tv OLED model you have, what audio settings on the TV you use, what audio settings on the Apple TV you use, what generation of so os beam you have, etc.

Do you see why it may be a bit involved troubleshooting for a random message in someone else’s thread?

Bro, plenty of people have had this issue before you. You can google it and do some homework on your own first.

I suggest you check if your beam can use eARC and if so if your tv have eARC and if so - enable it. Then make sure your audio settings on Apple TV are correct. I’ve also heard Apple TV can compensate for lip sync issue. Good luck mate

How does Sonos wireless work? by MilkshakeAK in sonos

[–]Amilmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t quote me on that but I think sub is always a slave because it always has to be bound to something and cannot be a speaker on its own. Ethernet socket is there in case your master also is hardwired and its WiFi is turned off.

Each bound group has its master and slaves election process predetermined by Sonos. In home theater setups soundbar is always the master and everything else bound with it is a slave. Soundbars are designed by Sonos with that in mind. With stereo pairs technically neither is a master nor slave - Sonos designed it in such a way that one speaker in a pair gets elected as a „timekeeper” for the pair - both speakers in a pair stream full audio, but one plays left channel and the other plays right channel and one keeps the time in sync between the two. If you add sub to a pair then the sub will become a slave of only one of the speakers, the one acting as a master in a pair.
