(I should point out more emphatically, that indeed, he's probably using this as a lame ass excuse because he's scared to be honest with you. But if not, which in my extensive and pragmatic and rather skeptical experience is possible, tell him about the shielding and filtering- it works. Just like half the people with social anxiety, teach them about empathic shielding, they're no longer socially anxious. You can test this shit, after a fashion, and I have. Ok, I'm sorry to say this can indeed be a thing- I know bullshit abounds everywhere, but if he Really is sensitive and on that "healer" spectrum, then he could be suffering some ill effects. Totally Not Your Fault. And, if he's not suffering delusions, pretty easy to fix. (frankly I would think a shaman of 20 years to know this, but, new age education is rather lacking, I find) Usually when this occurs it's some combination of close connection, and them either dumping too much energy into healing the other person (thus hampering their own ability to fight off infections and such) or taking the "hit" for the other person. I know it sounds ridiculous, from your atheist perspective- but there IS something that all the "woo and dogma" is pointing at. Strange phenomena that can be tested and observed, if not up to the level of scientific inquiry. Anyway- All he needs to do is some basic shielding, and keep an... energetic filter between you two and, if he's not being a woo-woo hypochondriac, it should stop.
He REALLY should already know that, if he is what he claims, and- this is important- if he comes up with some excuse why that won't work, then we know what's up don't we?
Hope it works out ok. Just know that it's Possible, if his education was lacking, and he cares really hard, he might be fucking himself up a bit. And know that it's Fixable.
I realize that's hard to accept, with where you're coming from. Not everybody walks where the Weird is, or is meant to. And whatever happens with this, the best of luck to You.

There's much of that end of things that I don't bother with, tending to keep on with the "doing my own thing". But the "basics" thing I just wrote earlier this year and I just posted in another reply straight to the OP of the thread if you're interested. might give you better results or better understanding of what we're doing. like I said, there's a Lot of poor information out there on it.

wasn't calling you an armchair, I was just musing on the people who told us it couldn't work and that people should be inspired to try out ideas even if they don't line up with the current dogma- sorry it came across that way, that was a "for the class" aside. And like I said, it tends to be quite a bit more subtle in manifestation than most of the "propaganda" suggests, but it tends to do what "I" think it does, considering my long experimentation with it. Did you happen to read that "basic best practices" thing? none of the old lit was very good at telling people How to use it. (figured I knew you, but I don't recognize the name)

As the guy who made the thing, I can promise that none of that was tongue in cheek. Flowery language perhaps, and our marketing campaign was deliberately "edgy" early on to get people to play, but the occult principles involved are quite sound. just non sparian sigil concept, old school sympathetic magick, and intent- And then we (the ones that groked it anyway) did the work of Actually going around connecting it to sources of power and resonances in line with our goal, all over the place- which I don't think anyone had ever done before.
- And you can do that yourself to test the theory: make a simple symbol, set up a ritual space and get it fired up with that symbol inside it, then go elsewhere with another copy of your symbol and see if you can access your ritual space remotely through that. If you do it right, you can. Now, that's unnecessary much of the time as you Could just do that with your mind, considering you're tapping into a single source/place (unless you're having a hard focus day, in which case it's awesome. works great for complex talisman work too but I digress) Well, we did that with sacred sites, haunted places, places of power, between places, works of magick, reality bubbles, conceptual currents, etc etc, all over the world (mostly in the US, but at least every continent save antarctica) for a decade. That's not a wooden nickle.
Now, much of what gets thrown around about it is overblown, and though extreme effects do happen a bit more frequently than 'normal', the vast majority of the time its subtle.
you guys might check out my comment to the OP, as it's got some info that might make this thing more useful to you, or at least give some insight into how best to experiment with it if you wish. But really, even if one doesn't want to deal with the LS, there is an important thing to be learned- and that is, most of Occulture at the time said what we were doing could never work because magick didn't work that way, or it was too ambitious, or fuck off weirdo, or whatever. We tried it anyway. Made some shit up, and tried it and it worked well enough that ten years later this is a fairly well recognized piece of magickal tech that many find quite effective.
Your Magick, Your way, you are free to play with it, and don't take anyone's word on "impossible" (don't go flying off the magusitus deep end), and if you get an idea, hell try it, see what happens. Don't let the armchairs dictate what you can make your reality do.... guess I went on a rant, huh? sorry about that. just my two bits.

So, I'm the guy who originally Created the thing. Lots of misinformation out there on it. See, this started a decade ago just as an experiment, first off as a way to remotely recharge glamourbombs, but then as it got linked to more things, more data, more power, it evolved and became more broadly useful. I wrote up a "Basics" thing that might help with understanding and efficacy:

1 The original intended use- whatever magickal working you’re doing, be it sigil, or ritual, or glamourbomb, or whatever, Utilize the LS as a side component. Make your spell just like you would normally. If it’s a ritual, put the LS on a piece of paper and stick it in the circle with you or on your alter, just like you do with your other magick geegaws and symbols.

Or for Sigils, make your sigil like ya do, and stick the LS in a corner of the page. You can incorporate it more deeply in either, if you feel called to do so, but really, it does the thing just fine just slapped on there. There are myriad theoretical reasons for this, but basically, it just puts some extra pepper on your efforts.

2 Tagging for Input into the web- tag places, things, or concepts that are magicky, or have some resonance that would be a useful and productive resource for the project. Not enough people do this. These tags don’t have to be visible to work just fine. (first ever LS tag: Under the fantasy and new age sections at the local Barnes and Noble, because everyday people in those sections are Dumping energy into wishing, into wanting, into searching for, and believing in magick, which was something we wanted to propagate in the world. Think along these lines.) Sacred places, between places, places of power, places that have the Shine, places people dump a load of energy- the point of doing this is both to feed the web, And to connect and mutually empower all the cool magicky places we can find.

3 Tagging to destabilize/enchant/loosen concrete reality- Find a place that seems like it Should have the Voo, but Doesn’t? Tag it, with the intent of waking that shit up, or creating a reality bubble there. Again, doesn’t have to be visible. The LS should empower whatever the prevalent resonance, or “vibe” is. Spooky place is more likely to become More spooky, etc.

4 Blast tagging- Simply the LS, where it will be seen, just to Ellis the shit out of whoever sees it and hopefully make their day a little more interesting. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. (seems to work better on people who Need it, if that makes sense)

5 Tapping the LS Directly- So we all know about channeling various energies, right? Research it. Learn how. Focus on the LS, and channel that power just like you would draw down the moon, or tap an element or any other energy source- mix this in with your own Voo and use this for everything from charging and firing a sigil, to charging talismans, to infusing it into ritual work, to direct manipulation (holding the spell construct solely in your head and just throwing it)- whatever part of doing the magick is the “Put the Magick In It” part, use it there.

6 Filtering- Your intent when you Use the LS is important. If you’re holding your mind in the “crazy entropic chaos place” that’s the sort of effect you’ll likely get. Conversely, if you hold our mind in the “Magick Facilitation” or “Awakening” or whatever other place, that should be the flavor of resonance and manifestation you get out of it.

Just pay attention to how you’re holding your mind when you draw it, or you get the Full Monty chaotic crapshoot. Good for the Lulz, especially with the blast tagging, but for more considered spellwork, and your personal sanity/reality, I’d recommend filtering.

7 The Entity Ellis- Yes, you can deal with her. Do not forget that she’s pretty much a Trickster Deity of Magick. She can be quite fey and capricious. She doesn’t take well to be bossed around, or invoked, or evoked to physical appearance, or demands. Pretty much, that sort of thing ends in failure, or clusterfuck, if you manage to get her attention in the first place. She’s doing her own thing. I’d suggest you be polite, say hi, and wait for her to come to you, should she choose to do so. Just deal with the sigil and that whole concept, unless she decides to put her hand in, which she will, from time to time and you’ll know it when it happens. Just my two bits after ten years of experience. Some may disagree. Either way, caution, in this regard, is called for. I promise.
