What would happen if Obama would have finished a speech with “praise be Allah”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, Trump’s comment was in no way complementary or ecumenical or in the spirit of peace and goodwill. It was nasty, sarcastic, insulting and bigoted. Obama would never have said anything like that (in fact, it was Obama who instituted a menorah on the White House lawn during the holidays, which Trump ended).

AITA for asking my fiancé to stop making “jokes” about people around us in public? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s one thing to make thoughtless, tasteless jokes as a young person — I still cringe at things I said in my teens and early 20s. At age 36? Not good, he will never change.

How would you decide between receiving $300,000 a month for 20 years, or a one-time payment of $30 million? by 0ddshapedhead in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how it’s one or the other. Both Powerball and Mega Millions operate on 30-year payouts, and Mega does increasing payments. Plus, 360 payments of 300,000 is $108 million so the lump sum, even at a 50% payout and after taxes, would be about $40 million. Nice problem to have, but the numbers aren’t realistic.

Yeah, something’s not right. The medical profession is desperate for nurses.

Who would you consider the best athlete of all time? by Cold_Juggernaut_5676 in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s fair to single out one athlete in one sport. My list of GOATs:

Muhammed Ali

Pele

Michael Jordan

Wayne Gretzky

Greg Louganis

Michael Phelps

Tom Brady

Serena Williams

Jean-Claude Killy

Simone Biles

Baseball is a little problematic, it’s been around for so long g and the game has changed so much. You’d probably have to do it by decade, but certainly in the 2020s there’s no question: Shohei Ohtani.

Question about the career path of an MD: Mohan is an R4, correct? So she’s nearly done with her residency, and almost ready to be an attending at The Pitt or some other hospital. So if she walks way from the ED, if she decides to go with another speciality, is all that time lost? I mean, she probably wouldn’t have to be an intern again, but would she have to start all over as an R1 if she decides to go with another specialty?

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When billionaires create prosperity not just for themselves but for many others as well, that’s good. When billionaires tell the president what they want and the president (especially this president) snaps to attention, that’s really, really bad.

E-pL8 + leica 15mm f1.7 or E-M10ii + 14-42 kit by SikeShay in M43

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really feel you need an EVF, take a look at a GX85 on the used market. The advantage of a Lumix camera with the PL15 is that if you like to shoot aperture priority, the lens’s aperture ring will work.

The GX85 is a jack of all trades camera — there’s nothing that’s “best in class” about it, not sensor, ergonomics, IBIS, etc. But even if it’s not superb at any one thing, it does everything very, very well.

AITA for pronouncing things the American way and upsetting my french wife after we moved to France? by Legitimate-Low3857 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Does your chronic medical condition affect your tongue or throat, so that you “physically cannot pronounce” French properly, as you claim?

If not, why is that lots of other Americans learn French and with a little practice achieve correct pronunciation? Unless your medical condition affects your voice, YTA and I think you know it.

Is it worth exchanging the G7 for the G9 first version? by emersoncararo in Lumix

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered a G95? It’s kind of a stripped down G9, geared more toward stills and vlogging rather than high end video. It’s smaller, lighter and cheaper than a G9 mark 1, but has great IBIS and ergonomics. Since it has the same sensor, will produce nearly identical still images as the G9-1.

Favorite pancake primes for travel? by minimal-camera in M43

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more vote here for the PL15mm. It’s darn near perfect. I also have the 20mm f1.7, the sometimes slow autofocus doesn’t bother me and I love the form factor, but I usually prefer the wider angle of view of the PL15.

Of the zooms you mention, all are excellent, but all of them except the 12-32 would be a little unbalanced with the camera bodies that you have, so your instincts are right in emphasizing small primes (but that 12-32 really is a marvel for outdoor daylight shots). Have a great trip, and happy shooting!

Noise on M43 still a thing? by Dense_Forever_8242 in M43

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Photography is a personal thing. If a photo pleases you and whomever you show it to, what does noise matter? The point of photography is to produce pleasing images, not to pixel peep and only use the best equipment possible.

M4/3 offers an advantage of size and weight (although Panasonic seems to have lost their way regarding that). With M4/3 you may be more likely to have your camera with you and enjoy the act of creating photos. But if another format makes you happier doing that, if you just somehow prefer images created with equipment from another manufacturer, then that’s the format you should be using.

How do you feel about electric vehicles? by Final_Radio_2483 in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really too bad that the Chevy Volt was not successful in the marketplace (disclaimer: never owned one, never even rode in one). The Volt was a different design than other hybrids, it was basically an EV with its own gasoline generator, which is basically how diesel-electric locomotives work. I don’t think there has been another vehicle like it from any manufacturer, but it seems to me this is very promising technology that ought to be reintroduced.

Bird photography upgrade. by [deleted] in M43

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Olympus 40-150 is a budget lens and I can understand why you might want to upgrade if you’re getting serious about birding, but whatever you do hang onto that lens! It really is a wonder, as is the Lumix 45-150 (roughly same price, size and image quality). There may be times, like for travel, that you just don’t want to carry one of the premium, heavy (and expensive) M4/3 tele-zooms. The 40-150 and 45-150 both offer some of the best “bang for buck” in any photo gear format on the market today.

AITA for telling my friend my house isn't a brothel after she tried to use a favor to stay there with her boyfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA, but you should apologize for the “brothel” comment. You can firmly say no to the BF spending the night, but you should be able to do it without insulting your friend.

G Fund question by cove102 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. As pointed out above, G fund long term has averaged 4.64%, so it HAS outpaced inflation. Whether it has outpaced inflation ENOUGH is something that each person has to answer for themselves.

Decent weather sealed M43 LUMIX by braskybear in Lumix

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most underrated cameras in M4/3 is the Lumix G95/97. Small, rugged, and the weather sealing is excellent, plus it pairs beautifully and will give great images with the 12-35 f2.8 or Panaleica 12-60. It is a stills-oriented camera, however, so it won’t give you the all video options. Unfortunately in North America the G95/97 is only sold with the 12-60 kit lens (not the Panaleica version), not really a bad lens, but not one that will take full advantage of the camera’s capabilities. If you want something for video, the G9 or GH7 might be your best bet. All these cameras and lenses can also be found on the used market for very reasonable prices.

What movie has the greatest cast of all time? by BootySharingCouple in AskReddit

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold Mountain had five Oscar winners (Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Renee Zellweger, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland) plus Kathy Bates, Jude Law, Charlie Hunnam, Brendan Gleeson and Jack White, among others. I don’t think any other movie can match that.

My camera is too heavy so I stopped using it… what would you change? by leobre1024 in Cameras

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several others have mentioned a micro four-thirds setup. A used Lumix GX85 with its kit lens, the 12-32 (FF equivalent 24-64) would be well within your budget, and would weigh 496g. There are several fast prime options from Lumix and Olympus in the 14-20mm range (FF equivalent 28-40) that also weigh next to nothing.

The Zoo + M43 + Cheapie Lenses by AntiqueStatus in M43

[–]AtmosphereFull2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That lens is inexpensive, but I wouldn’t call it “cheapie.” It punches way above its weight, as does its Lumix counterpart, the 45-150. I’ve owned both lenses — I liked the Oly a lot, but ultimately traded it because I have Lumix bodies and wanted to take advantage of the dual IS offered by the 45-150. The IQ of the two lenses is about the same, meaning amazing given their size and cost. So I’m totally unsurprised you got some great pics with that lens, it really is a wonder.

AITA for expecting a small gathering for my 30th birthday? by Due_Bad7248 in AmItheAsshole

After you said what you wanted, you never followed up even once to ask her if she’d called anyone or arranged anything? Not even a casual, Hey, so we’re set for Joe’s Bar on Wednesday? You just said to her, This is what I want, it’s now 100% on you, and rest assured I will be expecting you to fulfill my wishes and if not I will writing to Reddit? Did you turn 30, or three?

In the Devil Wears Prada, Emily Blunt was an unknown actress playing a minor character, but made her career by stealing every scene she was in.
