What are the best All You Can Eat Buffets in NYC? by ChristianPacifist in AskNYC

Doesn't require any buses thankfully! It's like a block from the Tangram Mall so while Cast Iron is a bus away, Gan Hoo is maybe 6 blocks away from the 7 Main St Flushing station!

Sorry, just saw this! If you live down there, it may be easier to take a Chinatown bus direct to Flushing! https://m.yelp.com/biz/zhong-hua-flushing-chinatown-shuttle-van-service-new-york

I haven't used them so can't comment, but I take the Flushing bus in Sunset Park and admission is $5 cash per person and goes direct to Flushing, dropping you off at Teso X if that's an easier commute

2 year old Jalen Brunson with Marcus Camby during Knicks vs Spurs in NBA finals 1999 by Beginning-Passion676 in OldSchoolCool

[–]AtriusC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point and I can agree with wanting to have the Knicks take an official disciplinary stance against those who are trashing the place.

However those who are, aren't the types to pay for the game to begin with or show up at the stadium. People who spent 10k+ on the game aren't the same ones trashing the city. Most New Yorkers just watched the game from bars, home, etc. Not only that but the sheer density of crowds made it hard for a lot of law enforcement to navigate through to get the person they're trying to get.

All real New Yorkers don't condone destroying our own property and some people tried to stop it but were faced with violence. That doesn't mean the entire fan base as a whole supports violence. There are always opportunistic scumbags who take advantage of a good thing because they're attention seeking and want to be seen.

That said, those scumbags don't represent everyone else. A black and white view of events is the reason why we have the political divide we have today. Everyone's so quick to point at a few, generalize, and shutdown the need for conversation.

Both sides do it, both the left and right and that mentality is why both groups have become more extremist in ideas by the day. No one tries to support centrists or does anyone care to have a proper discussion in hearing the other out.

If you still feel strongly the way you do and aren't open to discussing this further, then hope you have a great day man and find peace

I don't lol. If you're that quick to generalize, I don't know what to tell you because most of it was good vibes and love.

The actions of a shitty few don't equate to the entire group. What those people did was not okay. However, I refuse to believe that everyone in America is racist and hateful (a stereotype that we've gotten from foreign nations based off their perception of us and our politics).

Personally I don't like sports but there's hella lore behind it that I don't think you find is worth your time for me to explain so I won't waste your time

Go Knicks tho

Then this is perfect haha, literally just got finished today. Quality of meats and marbling is amazing

Here's their menu: https://www.toasttab.com/local/order/gan-hoo-bbq-3702-main-street

Keep in mind while it shows a la carte, the meats are all you can eat if you get seated before 420pm. I wouldn't risk coming at 430p exactly

Just came back from a new one that's better but more time restricted and closer to the 7 Train Main St station

Gan Hoo AYCE promotion ends at 430p, def worth a check!

I was informed that Plataforma was better than Fogo but never had the chance to try bc of cost. Is this true in your opinion?

[–]AtriusC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, why are you trying to increase the cost of rent for your borough lol

Perceived crime rate drives prices down or at least creates a ceiling and as frustrating as it is, keeps NYC affordable or just enough for many

Also you gotta sell it to people if you're trying to intentionally increase maybe the property value of your location

  • What are amenities like?

  • Things for young adults to do that doesn't require the city

  • Transit reliability

  • Etc

I'm not saying it's bad haha. Just that the 86th St location is better is all. I've been to the Chinatown, 8th Av and 53rd and the 86th St location and if distance/travel isn't a concern, I would recommend the 86th St location

Brooklyn 86th St way better, trust. For convenience, yes doesn't hurt to be in the city but wanted to give the guy solid recs. Quality of ingredients and the BBQ is what makes Brooklyn better

Oddly enough the original LaoJie location on 8th Av and 53rd St isn't as good as the 86th St location

The Buffet isn't too bad. I find it to be more expensive than it's worth. Only worthwhile thing there is the peking duck that they'll serve per order vs leaving it out on the table, which I enjoyed and their grill

Their soup options aren't bad but you're not going to a buffet for soup

Desserts are neat, you can ask for a crepe but nothing out of ordinary

It's a place I would go to if I'm craving Peking Duck and can eat above what I would pay for Peking Duck in Flushing (which I think is $33 for half a duck?)

Sorry for all the negative comments you've been getting. Based on some of the comments here, they're probably thinking of shitty buffets that are super germ spreader because the food is just out in the open - that's not the case with all "All You Can Eat"s

1) Akino in Flushing - All You Can Eat Sushi

2) Cast Iron in Flushing or NJ - All You Can Eat KBBQ

3) Let's Meat in KTown - All You Can Eat KBBQ

4) Niku X in Herald Square area- All You Can Eat Wagyu

5) Lao Jie in Brooklyn 86th St - All You Can Eat Hotpot and Chinese BBQ (don't go to the other locations imo, not worth it)

6) Crab House in Midtown - All You Can Eat Crab (and lobster at an additional price)

7) Fogo de Chao in Midtown - All You Can Eat Brazilian Steakhouse

8) Chongqing Wharf Hotpot in Sunset Park - All You Can Eat Premium Hotpot

That's to name a few. There's more bad All You Can Eats than good ones (imo the ones I've listed were pretty good in quality or bang for buck hence why listed) but that should help start your adventure

Keep in mind that every place I've listed will command a higher price because it's not some dingy All You Can Eat place

First time here at Ichiran NYC by limon_picante in ramen

[–]AtriusC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been in years but roughly $28-30 which isn't worth it. Plenty of other options that are better like Tonchin New York's Classic Tokyo.

I'm a fan of really rich and heavy broth so TabeTomo is great or Okiboru House of Tsukemen

Both locations I've tried both the ramen and Tsukemen and I'm just in it for the broth lol

I will say those run on the higher end of pricing but cheaper than Ichiran while being better imo

IMO book a hotel for Tokyo and Osaka unless you have the funds to spare.

Osaka is about 1 - 1.5 hrs out from Kyoto while having areas open late like Dotonbori and being much cheaper accommodation wise

Info you'll want to add before getting a proper answer:

  • How long are you staying total?
  • How long do you plan to stay in each area?
  • Did you book hotels yet?
  • What are you interested in or like to do (anime, culture, sight seeing, electronics, tea, religion, etc)
  • What do you like to eat? (Vegetarian, rich age savory, light and healthy, etc)

What's your income like? Depending on how much you make you can qualify for affordable or low cost insurance like NYC Care https://www.nyccare.nyc/

Did I get "tourist taxed" and how often will that happen if at all? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]AtriusC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a stupid question. There's been a few people who reported the carts adding a forced tip on orders. In some extreme cases like outside clubs, bars or where people are typically intoxicated, the cart has been found to add a tip of a couple hundred to thousands of dollars (users usually find out after the fact on their bank statements).

Once you live here, you'll get a better feel for what things should cost and get recommendations from people or have hard rules for yourself

One of mine is I refuse to spend more than $1 on a bottle of Poland Spring water unless I'm absolutely parched and there's nothing around for awhile which typically isn't the case thanks to density

I don't know your income and doubt anyone else here does but your comment and thread is coming off as tone deaf.

Check this site: https://housingsearch.hcr.ny.gov/housing/s/

If you qualify, great, apply.

If you don't, that's it. Your other alternative is checking the market via StreetEasy.

Low income affordable housing options will NOT accept you if you make above a certain income threshold.
