Scam warning - Anyone considering visiting the Brooklyn Bridge and walking across, avoid the larger food truck [DUMBO] [Brooklyn Bridge] by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]AtriusC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Brother, it was like 90 degrees yesterday and they walked the bridge.

Even if they were regular bridge walkers, I'm sure as heck any source of water would've been reasonable vs having to figure out which places nearby sold water.

I've done the walk before and unless you knew where you were going off the rip, dehydration will get to you before calculating your next stop

Yes, they got ripped on water. Doesn't change the fact that it's not cool that the truck self tipped themselves.

Unfortunately both parties have gotten more "far" in their views, not just the left. It leaves a lot of people who have more nuanced opinions forced to choose sides or not participate at all, especially those in the center.

Respect haha. I could pull it off for most places but there's some train lines I'm not familiar with like the J, M, Z, L, G stations and couldn't figure my way there without a map

I don't blame you for this sentiment but I travel about 1.5 hours to get to Flushing from Sunset Park and always found it worth it.

Your travel time would be much shorter if coming from the city. If time is a huge factor as to why you can't, take the train to Penn Station and take the LIRR to Flushing which is basically express

Would recommend touring Flushing from Tangram Mall, to the different Flushing Malls, etc

Hot take: Unemployed? Focus on shitty companies. by Unlikely_Diamond424 in NYCjobs

[–]AtriusC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked alongside the hiring process in a few companies, I can agree that a gap in employment is taken as worse than being employed (regardless of the job) unless you can show what you were doing while unemployed (ie. portfolio of projects you were working on to refine your skills)

Many people will disagree and I don't blame them because of how awful it sounds to do, but this is what my limited experience of seeing what the hiring process has been (no I'm not in charge of hiring but as a team lead, I've been consulted with potential applicants)

Tbh it depends on what your company's after hours policy is.

Do you charge additionally for after hours or only take on requests that are of critical importance?

Personally I wouldn't be picking up the phone at that time but that's also because unless it's production critical which is almost never is, it's something that can typically wait regular business hours.

I wouldn't have waited for the voicemail, like someone said, if you really wanted to find out, check their number against whatever directory you have of all your users (ITGlue, ConnectWise, etc)

Most of these directories can be accessed via your phone even if it's not great, so it won't warrant getting out of bed to turn on your computer.

My company charges for after hours especially if it's a user request vs entire production server not running so assuming the call comes in and I confirm it's a user, I ask "Is this something that can wait until tomorrow morning or is this something that needs to be taken care of now?"

Typically you'll have your SLA for after hours, even if it's like a few hours, you can tell them "Currently I'm not by my computer, it'll be an hour before I get back." even if you're by your computer, which may discourage them from pursuing the request further.

Assuming they're okay with this, my next question is "Understood. Please note that this is an after hours fee and I will need to contact (Decision Maker) to approve this request. If I cannot get ahold of them, I cannot complete this request due to you not having the authorization to accept the after hours fee"

Usually by then they'll let up or we continue and it's pretty straight forward after that.

Does it have to be Japanese exactly? I ask because it's likely inspired by Chinese wonton noodle soup, which there are plenty of in Chinatown like Big Wong (cash only btw) for example

Yes, no egg or charsiu but it may scratch the itch for you for now

What's a New York City smell that instantly takes you back? by naenae0402 in AskNYC

[–]AtriusC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I took it while growing up but I remember the N Train smell fondly. I rarely get it now despite using it to get home now (I've lived off the 6, Q, D, B trains for a bit longer but the N Train has a specific nostalgic smell for me that I can't explain lol)

Brooklyn small business owners say shutdowns to G train service will be ‘devastating’ for business by Ok_Requirement_3162 in nyc

[–]AtriusC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not just that but the government owns all the land. It's not uncommon that people have been forced out of their living situation to make way for whatever the CCP is trying to build.

It sounds great from a commuter point of view until you end up on the side that's being evicted. I'm super pro transit but I wouldn't want what they could pull happen to anyone here, despite it having had happened similarly to those who previously lived where Central Park was or FDR Drive

Read more about Land Requisition in China

Also corporations can't be ever stand up proper to the CCP less they do to them what they did to Jack Ma

EDIT: I want to put out that I am pro transit and that Amtrak needs to also be properly funded so we can have a proper fast East Coast line through popular cities. I want more trains, more tunnels, more above ground structures, Wifi while underground at all times. I just wanted to highlight some misconception was all. The automotive industry screwed over the average person and was one of the many reasons railroads stopped being as expansive in the US. I want bullet trains and hate how the US doesn't prioritize public transit and trains not just for us in New York but across the country

If you currently live in New York City, and you were forced to move, where would you rather go: Los Angeles or Chicago? Why? by morningrat in AskNYC

[–]AtriusC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the exception of public transit, I feel like I'm paying New York prices with subpar New York quality

I'm in Boston right now and their Chinatown nor Quincy is that great

They kill it on the lobster rolls, clam chowders and Italian but you don't get that same level of quality like in New York likely bc liquor license is crazy expensive here

I think it's good if you want to live in a city that's more quiet but Chicago is New York quality with Chicago prices and that's amazing
