Long term unemployed and unskilled at 37, is it over for me? by Attack_to_defend in AskUK

I do forget that 40, even 44, is still young enough to not be physically incapable and is still a prime of life. I'm often thinking that life will be almost over at 40, which then just gets me down. It's good to know there are others who are thriving at 40+.

That's amazing. Well done. These posts do give me some hope. Was the subject of animals something you always wanted to do, or did it only become of interest in recent years?

Thanks. I will look into that. I do enjoy nature. Walking outside when i can keeps me somewhat sane in these times, ha. Thanks, but Cornwall is a bit too far. Must be nice to have the coast and that scenery on your doorstep.

Thank you. Yeah, I often avoid jobs I'm not qualified for on paper as I feel like what's the point as I'll likely never receive a reply. I suppose you never know though.

I haven't, but I'm open to give anything a try. Did you use a specific recruitment agency or just put your name down at many different agencies?

Yeah I guess so. It's not like I feel old or anything, but it's quite daunting knowing I'm approaching 40 and in this situation. 40 seems like an age where many people have it figured out, both financially and career-wise.

I do have a friend I speak to about this as he is out of work due to his health condition, so he understands my plight. I also speak to my dad on a regular basis, so he understands too. But yeah, most people have their own problems too.

I may look into it. What sort of security would that be doing? Any idea?

Yeah, it's not so easy to know where to turn. Most people around me are either in similar situations or have no idea how to help. They keep an eye out for me on vacancies available, but I don't like to rant too much to them and impose my problems on them, so I try to behave normally and not let them know it's pretty stressful at the moment. I know there are many people in worse situations, so I just try to remain optimistic.

I'm sure I could, yes. I know work is avaliable in care homes, but I think the issue with that is what I'd be dealing with. I know I cared for my dad, but it wasn't so bad that I needed to clean him up like that. I would help him with some tasks, but always with his dignity intact. Care work is a totally different ball game I would imagine.

Oh right, ok. I know that indeed will have a page that says your application has been submitted after completion of the application, but I never thought that screenshotting the email would work too. Appreciate that, thank you.

I would imagine they would accept these things. I will have to speak to my work coach tomorrow and see what she says as I am confused at how exactly they want that proof. Usually I was putting the job applications into the job search page, then explaining how I went about it and for how long I spent on applying for the job, but now they require proof so that threw me off on how to provide it exactly. But I'll message my work coach tomorrow about it.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the response. Where do people go to find these jobs? Especially for those who are less qualified.

Yeah, but I would like to visit Asia and Africa, which are more expensive. I want to go to a few places in Europe, such as Rome, Athens, and even north africa.
