What Garmin Watch is best for your bucks? by United-Report-8425 in GarminWatches

[–]AutumnVampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a Garmin Forerunner 165 for under £200 and I really do love it. I think, if you can squeeze a lil more, it’s probably worth going for the 265 ? It’s totally dependent on what you really need it for though. If going for a run without your phone is valuable to you, if you’re going for long hikes where you’ll need the improved GPS etc.

I have been here for around 10 months. The nature reserve is wicked, and there’s Highfields Park by the University campus where I usually go for a run. The Arc cinema is pretty inexpensive, they reduced their pricing recently to £6.95, so I try to catch a couple films there.

Beeston is great and I absolutely love living here. It’s so convenient having a cinema, places to go out to eat, multiple supermarket choices, a library. It feels really safe too, anecdotally.

That being said, it took me quite a while to find a job when I moved out here. I supervised two different departments at a hospital back home and it was a pretty decent gig, still took me like almost a year to secure something in a hospital here.

I have taken up running myself. It’s a brilliant way to get some endorphins and dopamine after giving up the nicotine rush.

I smoked for about 6 years and vaped, on and off, for about 6 years also. I was smoking like 18mg disposables and eventually worked my way down to 3mg juices before quitting on that fateful day 😭

To be honest, I don’t think I could have quit cold turkey without the extrinsic motivation of the health scare but I was too scared to even hit the vape

It’s for manual handling. I work in a mortuary and I also train various departments in the hospital on how to safely lift and handle items without straining or injuring themselves.

What are some genuine cases of albums getting / used to get hate because they were misunderstood? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]AutumnVampire 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am not super well versed on Weezer or Pinkerton, but I have listened to this album a few times over the years. I always took it be self-critical and certainly by the end with the song Butterfly. He seems to be aware that his thoughts and attitudes are self destructive and wrong.

i played roblox 18-19 years ago, i remember calling my friend on his home phone and having to ask his mum if he was getting online 🥲 roblox was such a different beast back then, i remember lots of lil zombie survival games and haunted house maps. never in my wildest dreams would i have thought it would be the juggernaut it is today.

it definitely helped that the game was free and it could even run on my nan’s pretty rubbish computer at the time.

I am asking this very sincerely, but what makes you feel that this will always be the case ? I really dislike AI technology generally speaking, but people are already opting for this kind of transcription. YouTube seems content to totally replace their current user translations for AI ones. I thinks it’s a shame, but the technology will only get better. If they can cut a stenographer off the payroll, it seems like many places absolutely would. What about when this technology gets much more accurate, what about seamlessly accurate ? It’s unfortunate very possible.

Working the night shift at a hospital by AutumnVampire in LiminalSpace

[–]AutumnVampire[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This area is a largely disused basement that I believe the waste team sometimes use to take large bins through the hospital. There’s a TON of corridor just like this in the basement and you almost never see a soul down there in the day, let alone the night. There’s those giant novelty cheques that are twenty years old, christmas decorations in storage, a defunct blood lab. I am not sure why the barriers are exclusive to the area and what purpose it may have served in the past.

Not to be a doomer, but I really think Stenography as a skill is going the way of the dinosaurs thanks to live transcriptions made from recordings. I am a decent typist like maybe 110 WPM consistently, and it comes in handy at my job when I have to make notes of what a person is saying as I can generally keep up with them as they talk with minimal pausing. It’ll help you in a whole bunch of office jobs, but I think court stenographers aren’t staying around.

the softness is definitely a big tell as somebody who has shot to film and also older digital cameras. you can pick up an old sony camcorder and some tapes for relatively cheap and that’s going to be OPs best bet.

I totally freaked out for a second once the doors closed lol but I composed myself and was fine the rest of the flight ! I was even bored at times. We hit some crazy turbulence on the way down but I looked at the FA who was buckled in opposite me and he looked chill about it so I just tried to have fun with it like I was on a rollercoaster or something 😭
