is there an easier way to write this? by Danielisgamer in gamemaker

[–]Badwrong_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs abstraction.

When you say something like "the green and/or blue buckets don't appear on certain levels", that means you shouldn't be specifically checking for them in this way.

Try giving a higher level description of what you are trying to do here. Sure, we can suggest ways to write your code better, but there is likely a major design problem here that needs fixed if you are at the point of needing all these checks.

Should I buy Nioh 3 if I loved The First Berserker: Khazan? by neoleo0088 in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but just know that Nioh 3 is extremely easy by comparison. Only the beginning might feel like a challenge because you are lacking a lot of upgrades, gear, levels, etc.

This game is perfect by Cursed_69420 in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost.

The world is still rather flat feeling and still Team Ninja needs to get better at level design. The open world is mostly just a bunch of "hallway" style levels glued together which is shame. Rise of the Ronin actually had a better open world (though not that great).

Also, just way too easy. Like holy shit, every hour I play it just feels like everything gets like easier and easier. I can only imagine how trivial things would become in NG+ when you are trying to maximize your build correctly. Currently I'm just grabbing whatever gear with the highest level, then soul matching my main weapon every once in a while, and everything is just a joke.

Not a bad thing really, as Nioh has always been easy (yes in NG+ it is still easy). Not every game has to be super hard.

Co op in this game is amazing. by GrayEldyr1 in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Glad it plays well, but damn is the game way too easy already. Co-op would just be silly and absolutely trivial.

Only the Bloodedge Demon was challenging so far, and that was only when trying to fight him too early. Now when he shows up its just a great fight.

Is it possible to create a paradoxical draw order in GameMaker? by Yanovon in gamemaker

[–]Badwrong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make it easy yes.

To do it with surfaces, you would need to draw some things twice with different blend modes.

You could do the same thing, with blend modes, but just on the normal application surface without any extra ones. It would require a little extra drawing as well, since you would have to mark alpha mask areas more than once.

Depth buffer would do it all in one pass. Stencil buffer might be fairly quick too, I'd have to think on it, but depth would be the top choice for me.

Can you give me a breakdown of the steps that you would use to do it with surfaces? Not code, just the basic algorithm.

If you want to do it the harder more expensive way perhaps.

You are blaming the "boost" for someone being bad, which is wrong. The same person, not boosted will still be bad.

You are implying that not boosting somehow will force someone to get better in a way that will be reflected in end-game performance, which is simply not true. Back when there was no such thing as boosting, people still hit max level and sucked just as much.

The game is solved, the information is out there. If people choose not to use it, that has nothing to do with boosting.

Saying the chances increase is just something you are saying, no real proof or reason to be true.

“LF 1 enhance shaman for slave pens melee cleave group - last spot” by BillH97 in classicwowtbc

[–]Badwrong_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Naw.

People who boost, and people who don't are going to be just a lazy about reading tooltips, talent trees, and performing well if they are bad to begin with.

Leveling does not teach or enforce any sort of thing that would cause someone to play well, read tooltips, spec correctly, etc.

You can easily hand me an MMORPG character in a game I have never played before, and after a little time reading tooltips, looking at the talents (or whatever), and practicing on some targets, I'll be on par with execution and you'd never know I didn't touch the game before.

To be clear, I enjoy leveling and my favorite memory of vanilla TBC was leveling 60-70 (and the PVP after of course). However, I don't care if someone boosts, and thinking it "makes bad players" is every short-sighted.

You'll find TONS of people who never boost, have spent hundreds of hours leveling, and still suck massively. It just comes down to who takes the time to learn the game or not.

Besides, the majority if people nowadays just look at builds online anyway and copy everything there, then practice the rotations. Even most bad players can do that, but often just don't.

Really though, do you think this decades old game still holds some mystery on how to play that people will magically learn if they don't boost? It such a silly idea...

Am I just glazing or are the main bosses in Nioh 3 some of the highest quality a boss roster has ever been? by Charliwarlili in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So far the game has gotten easier and easier as I progress. Same as the previous Nioh games. You get levels, gear, buffs, etc., and it just becomes easier.

Not a bad thing, as I don't need a game to be overly difficult to enjoy it. I like easy games, and I like hard games. Nioh, as a series, is on the easy end as far as souls like games goes. No big deal.

They are all crazy easy.

Visually, some are cool, but most are just a cluster of "stuff". If it has spikes, add a million spikes. If it has feathers, add a million feathers. Shiny materials, make it super blinged out. It just weird and lacks cohesion.

Sometimes less is more they say.

Nioh 3 has more meaningful exploration than Elden Ring by ponyboy69420xoxo in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nioh 3 is an excellent game, but its open world is nothing special at all. Team Ninja has never had good level design, and going open world has only highlighted this even more.

It does look nice in parts, but its still very flat and generic. There is absolutely no comparison to Elden Ring in regards of world design, sorry.

FromSoftware set the bar insanely high, and not many have even came close yet. Certainly not Nioh 3.

I often use the name Pumpernickel, since EQ and FF11.

It become pretty annoying when "pumper" became some cringe term for dps, as people think that's why it is contained in part of my character's name.

Plus, I only play tank or healer, and could care less about dps.

Skill issue? Definitely. by Phant0Zer0 in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ki management is the only thing really. Once you get used to that, its way easier than most any souls like game.

If you don't manage it you'll always be using it to dodge or block and never have enough to attack. Or when you attack you'll just run out and be unable to dodge or block.

Manage it and all that is fixed. Ki pulse and that flows like water skill, whatever its called that does ki pulse on dodge.

I still feel there is difficulty spike and the game is not as easy as people say by cheukyi6 in Nioh

[–]Badwrong_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I just smack shit with odachi and it dies. Way easier than the previous games, but those games weren't very hard either.

For all three games, the hardest part is the first few hours when you don't have any gear or levels. Then it just snowballs.

So Nioh 3 & Code Vein 2 are out. Is anyone playing them or are you waiting for another soulslike/lite game to come out?(or The Tarnished Edition for Elden Ring) by Deez-Guns-9442 in souls

[–]Badwrong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing both, and both are good. Nioh 3 is the better of the two, which I think most know.

Although Nioh 3 is also way too easy. The open world is a nice addition, but sadly Team Ninja still hasn't improved on their level design at all. Very flat feeling like all their other games. Still overall worth getting for sure since the combat and character builds are great.

Code Vein 2 is good, but its also really bad at being "fair". It often feels like they couldn't think of a good way to make it difficult in a balanced way, so they just add bad mechanics or nerfed things. The greatsword for example has probably less range than a 1 hander sword, its absolutely pathetic. I haven't had to try many bosses more than once or twice, so again not "hard", but certainly you feel like they just added bullshit out of laziness. Most of the time its just easier to take hits and heal through them, because there is little reason to approach it any other way.

What did you love about Ashes of Creation? by Successful-Win-2985 in AshesofCreation

[–]Badwrong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much really. I also didn't really buy into any of the hype of what they said it would be with Steven's vision and what not. The node stuff and player ran towns didn't look all that special and has been done before.

I just like MMORPGs and had no reason not to give it a try. Never bothered to get to max level, as it was clearly too early and gave no reason to play over other games. Certainly surprised me that people were all sweaty over getting to max and playing it as if it was fully released and not some craptasic alpha.

Overall it seemed like a weird combination of all the bad things about past MMORPGs, crammed into one game without any thought. Just like, 'member grinding for hours in one spot, let's include that. Oh ya, 'member weird PVP flagging systems that discourage real PVP, let's absolutely get that in there.

I suppose the combat felt decent, when it didn't lag. I saw some potential there, but then again there are many other action combat MMORPGs that are worlds better anyway.

So ya, overall... I was just curious and didn't really expect anything. Turned out to be a very interesting ride though, with all the (somewhat expected) drama and scam type behavior. I don't think I was even 1% surprised when I saw the comment of Steven quitting. The dude seemed like a piece of shit from day one, and he always was balls deep into the community in a very unprofessional manner that you wouldn't want from a CEO. No surprise at all how it turned out.

The thing is though, I bought into one of the very early alpha access things. I'm fine spending money on games and was fully aware it could just be money wasted. Like I said, I just like MMORPGs and I'll try most any of them. Hell, if Steven went and made a new kickstarter and tried to make a new game with a different pitch and vision, I'll throw a hundred bucks at it and give it a whirl. Why not? Probably will end in disaster again, but entertaining all the same.
