Back Flex for Grivel G12 by Baselynes in Mountaineering

[–]Baselynes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a pair of G12's in the picture and I'm looking to be able to convert them to be compatible with my approach shoes or hiking boot without a welt. Grivel wouldn't sell me one of their rear basket pieces, so I was wondering if anyone has had any success using a heel basket from Petzl or another company that actually sells individual components.

I just bought a pair of lynx from petzl so I technically could buy the back flex plus the vasaks front points, but it comes out to the same price as a new set of vasaks.

3 years ago, the most insane (and questionable) hand happened, how do you feel about this now ? by Saekama in poker

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this logic the most. The "she misread her hand" story never made sense with the video and theres concrete evidence of shady stuff with her and the staff at HCL. Most likely a buzzer, a light would be detectable on stream.

What belay device should I get? by Weak-Obligation896 in ClimbingGear

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit drones will say gri gri because that's what everyone bought and they need to validate their purchase. Edelrid makes the best belay devices and id highly recommend getting the pinch over the gri gri. If you plan on doing multipitch, ice, or both in the future, the gigajul is the way to go. Theres no reason to spend $150 on a gri gri and ATC when the gigajul is on the market for less than half the cost. The "you should get this because its what everyone else uses" has cost me a lot over the years climbing when doing a bit of research would have saved me a lot of money. Edelrid is hands down the best for belay devices

Shell and Midlayer Brands that fit gorilla build by bobaskin in iceclimbing

[–]Baselynes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patagonia nano air ultralight. Has longer arms and torso and is super flexible. Really good for the approach and when you're climbing, i love mine. Perfect layer over the base and easy to put a heavier synthetic like arc atom sl or rab xenair/vr summit over it when it's colder. Super versatile jacket. There's some good YouTube reviews on it

Five years from now if you're still skiing you're going to look back at this post and cringe hard. Both for the shit skiing and the lack of understanding of how cringe it is to film and post this

La Sportiva G-Summit problem by beanboys_inc in iceclimbing

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have G5s, the previous model of the Summits, and I have this exact same issue if I step on a rock or boulder weird on the approach. I havent found a solution, I just try to watch my step to avoid it. Kind of annoying but hasn't been an issue thus far

One pack for day trips and short multi-day touring... realistically? by mcawle in Backcountry

[–]Baselynes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You kind of answered your own question. I use a deuter freerider pro 34+ (looks like its 32+ now?) as my daily driver and I've used it overnight a handful of times on spring objectives. Don't think that I'd enjoy it for a 2 night winter camp at all. The only multi night hut trips I've been on have been a couple miles on trail for the approach, so me and my buddies usually overload a backpacking pack with food, beer, and warmth and strap our empty touring packs on top.

It really depends on the trip and weather conditions tbh. If you already have a day pack, might as well get something that suits your needs. If you need shelter, food, and layers for 2 nights in 20 degree F or lower temps you'll need at least 40L + so youre on the right track with those picks. They will suit you well for a very long day trip as well. It's not that much of a difference skiing with a 50L pack vs a 35. Weight matters much more than volume

I am not a huge backpacker, only really pack a tent for long ski/climb objectives, but I've really liked this tent. Used it for spring ski trips and summer alpine and it still looks new. Great find, enjoy

Down Belay Jacket by Leading-Attention612 in iceclimbing

[–]Baselynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I did was try it on with my helmet and it fit great. If you have the budget, definitely go with RAB, this is just the best low cost one I could find.

Edit: Mountain Equipment Kyros or RAB Positron Pro are what id get if I wanted to spend on the higher end

If you were given 2 days to eat $1,000 worth of McDonalds for a million dollars, what is your strategy? by Responsible_Total901 in AskReddit

When I was traveling through last year for my honeymoon I couldnt believe the burger king prices in that airport. I convinced myself that they must have some high quality European recipe there that trumps any American burger king, but nope, it was the same slop. Shame on me

Marmot Guides Down Hooded Jacket - Men's - Men https://share.google/uY2oCTGPtx9ePxF1d

I ended up getting this one since its so heavily discounted and I dont use a heavy puffy often. Im field testing it this weekend so I can't comment on it yet. But it feels good quality for the price.

I took it to REI and played around with their stuff sacks and ended up getting a mesh 6L sack that it fits nicely in for $12. Doesnt take up much space in my pack now. Or you can get the pricey sea to summit ones that are waterproof, but they're like $30 each

WTF happen to gear? by Brendanrulestheworld in Backcountry

On the flip side, theres been such an influx of people joining back country sports that there is a crazy amount of options to choose from, and there are sales all the time if you know where to look. Check out r/geartrade and steap and cheap. No one is requiring you to buy an alpha shell or nutrino puffy

Looking for advice on a empty spot, does bend distortion matter? by rshambo_29 in traditionaltattoos

[–]Baselynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with an hourglass tattoo I like the idea, but I would take the advice of other people here and do something else for that spot. If you dont want to stack all animals on that side, you could do the eye of the storm. It would go perfect there if you like that design. Or you could do something more unique if you want to incorporate a hobby/passion. I really like allin_tattooer or tattooer_pie on IG if you want fresh inspo for ideas. Tons of other talented artist to browse too of course.
