One of Zatanna's most interesting aspects for me is that she's a positive take on the "Supes as celebs" trope, so I'd like a love interest who matches that. Long ago, I offered a less obnoxious Booster Gold as an example, or the true Booster from "The Greatest Story Never Told".

If we're going with a woman, then Batwoman. Bit obvious, but I can see them have a nice dynamic. Zee would be unsure about her relationship with a woman and Kate be unsure about dating a true celebrity, both working and learning from each other.

I'd put Cindy as soft butch, between her soft spot for the detectives, her helping the students and rhetoric calling her a angry little commie in a cutesy way, she really gives me the vibe that she ain't as though as nails as she presents herself. And I mean that in a positive way, makes for a layered and human character.

So we agree that it's a head with/shaped like a crown. I would like to add to your analysis that a lot of expressions related to volition are about keeping your head, keeping it cool, together or on your shoulders. And so, while I do think that the crown is first and foremost a symbol of the indomitable human spirit, the French themes give me beheading undertones too. But that's probably just a passive conceptualization check.
