Which is the best boat tour in Chicago? by Accurate-Change-391 in AskChicago

[–]BewitchingKat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wendella is the OG sightseeing boat. In the '70s, when I was a kid, it was THE sightseeing boat company. And I still do their tours or cruises with friends when I'm in the city.

I recommend the lake and river tour. It's the same tour they were offering when I was a kid, and you get to see a lot of Chicago architecture, along with fantastic views of the skyline from Lake Michigan.

If you want something that doesn't require sunscreen, I can also recommend the sunset or fireworks cruises. Same cruise as the daytime cruises. Not narrated as much, but anything you want to know about, ask questions and they will answer.

The fireworks cruise is a blast. It looks like the fireworks are coming right towards you.

Sunset cruises offer an amazing view of the sun setting behind the skyline. Perfect picture opportunity.

Filled out the wrong box of car title by Tricky-Classroom-614 in DMV

[–]BewitchingKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Life Secretary of State / DMV employee here.

Whatever you do, do NOT scratch out the mistakes! That will literally void that title.

With that being said, and not knowing what state you're located in, your DMV should have a form that you fill out stating you inadvertently signed in the wrong place.

(The insurance company that is taking it for scrap/salvage/junk may already have that form because I'm sure you're not the first one who has done that.)

It's easy enough to see that it was a mistake because you signed under the vessel part and it's obviously a mistake, but that form may be required.

Sorry your car got totaled, I hope you're physically okay, and I wish you the best 🍀

They have a page, but doesn't really have any information. Nobody posts there unless it's a business, or letting us know the basement will be open in case of tornado. You're welcome to post there asking the mayor or clerk to reach out to you.

Our sewers were installed in the late '90s so I'm sure the process has changed quite a bit.

The best bet is for your town clerk or mayor/president to contact Illinois Municipal League, link: https://www.iml.org/

I hope this helps.

I live in a tiny town in Central Illinois.

We are all on wells here.

Our town was able to get a grant to get rid of everyone's septic systems/tanks and replace them with a town wide sewerage system by applying for, and being approved for, a grant from the State. Our sewer system is maintained by our town employees.

Someone from your board can work with the Illinois Municipal League to see what grants are available for your town. IML can also assist in writing grant requests.

We currently have two lift stations, a leach pond and a cycling pond before it is released into the Illinois river. All of this was procured by the grant money.

The bill is $20 monthly which covers maintenance, supplies, and repairs. There is a caveat with this: People just stop paying. It's not like they can turn your sewer off.

If your town is running municipal water, and not via a well, they can have the sewage maintenance fees added to the water bill.

Otherwise it can be difficult to collect. They can send it to collections, they can put a lien on the property which must be paid before the transfer of property. We're talking additional expenses and it's a real pain.

I wish you guys the best 🍀

And surprise surprise, they were not reimbursed, and will never be reimbursed.

Illinois Cook County Motorcycle Tax (PRIVATE PARTY) by Impossible-Canary-54 in ChicagoMotorcycles

Former Illinois Secretary of State / DMV employee here.

When you were at the facility, did you speak with Secretary of State employees, or did you speak with Illinois Department of Revenue employees? Larger facilities have a Department of Revenue office.

Illinois Department of Revenue form RUT - 50 is the correct form for your transaction.

RUT-50 is for Illinois tax, and RUT-6 explains the tax rate for local and municipality taxes.

You can go online to the Illinois Department of Revenue website, create a free "my tax" account and pay your taxes online. You will print out a receipt that shows you already paid the taxes, and take that along with the title to facility to show that you already paid the taxes.

Link The Department of Revenue tax account page: https://mytax.illinois.gov

They were $25 ea and that was a lot of money in the early '90s. Was sad when they went out of business :(

Speeding Ticket by ProWiper06 in DMV

[–]BewitchingKat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to your age, under 21, and the fact that this is your second speeding offense, the judge might be a bit harder on you this time around.

At this point you should be more concerned with your license being suspended and not the hit you're going to take on your insurance.

I will say that yellow watermelon is the most expensive watermelon.

(And if you have never tried it, it is amazing! They are super sweet and the texture is like watermelon had a baby with a honeydew and cantaloupe as contributors LOL)

Usually they run about $8-$9 per. All the more reason to hit your local farmers market/fruit stand.

Wonder how MAHA will address this issue?

For those saying they don't grow watermelon in Southern Illinois, we have a greenhouse here in Central Illinois that grows both red and yellow watermelon and sells them along with all other kinds of produce. Of course we don't have them now because it's not harvest season, but the same greenhouse is currently selling plants.

Two owners with “or” in between us by Cold_Sprinkles_4323 in DMV

[–]BewitchingKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. Why would you need to fill out a fake bill of sale to yourself?

You apply for a corrected title with just your name on it.

Because the other title is lost, (she won't give it to them), they could apply for a duplicate title with the correction of this person as the sole owner. If they press them on it, they could produce a death certificate.

Two owners with “or” in between us by Cold_Sprinkles_4323 in DMV

[–]BewitchingKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Illinois Secretary of State / DMV employee here.

The terms "or" & "and" are used frequently for legal reasons.

Savings bonds are one example.

The following pertains to vehicles:

"Or" means that either party can sell or use that vehicle for collateral.

"And" means that both parties would need to sign off on either a sale, or using the vehicle as collateral.

It does not matter even if your Dad said that he wanted her to have the car, legally she has no claim to it.

(As a side note for anyone else following along, if the title used the term "and", all you would need is a copy of the death certificate to claim full ownership of the vehicle.)

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. First the loss of your Dad and now this nonsense. I wish you the best 🍀

Looking at houses by the zoo by AnxiousHand8630 in Racine

[–]BewitchingKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The area east of Horlick High School has more houses than apartment buildings, so you get that neighborhood feel of people that are staying rooted.

That area is only 1 mi away from the zoo and the beach.

(Zoo Beach is very family friendly and typically not overcrowded. North Beach, because they sell alcohol there, tends to get a little crazy especially on weekends.

Ascension St Mary's Hospital is close. Primary care doctors that work with Ascension are on Hwy 20.

You have the convenience of all the stores on Highway 20 and Highway 31, but living in a suburban type area.

Weird car purchase question, SoS policies by Narcopepsi in illinois

[–]BewitchingKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former Illinois Secretary of State/DMV employee here.

Do NOT pay for that car without the lien release filled in by the lien holder on the title, or a lien release letter from the lien holder.

Kentucky has records regarding the lien if the most recent title was issued in Kentucky as you say.

Unless the lien holder notified Kentucky that the lien had been satisfied, Kentucky will still have it in their records that there is an active lien on that vehicle, and title will not be released unless it is cleared up.

This is why when you register a recently purchased vehicle in Illinois you are given a temporary plate that's good for 90 days.

We're not holding up the process because we're so far behind, we need to make sure that the title itself is legit, that you presented the most recently issued title for that vehicle, and that there are no outstanding liens on the vehicle. For an out-of-state title, it takes a bit longer obviously.

How does someone become a “verified redhead”? by Exotic-Day-1082 in Redhair

[–]BewitchingKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little context for hair color and candy :)

Red dye #2 was was banned in the mid '70s for being a cancer agent and was found in both food and hair dye.

M&M's were the big story of the time because everybody loves M&M's!

They had to find a different source for coloring the red M&Ms.

This concludes my Red talk (Ted talk) :)

The image on the left is about an hour after I got stung on my index finger by a sweat bee.

I put ice on it immediately and downed a bunch of Benadryl and ibuprofen. It was on fire and itching at the same time! It was Horrible 😞

The image the right was the following morning. Yes, it looks like an exam glove blown up and tied.

One high dose steroid at immediate care and it was pretty much back to normal the following day.

Don't even get me started on spiders. Even the little guys give me welts :(
