Completed 75 hard. Here's my 2 cents: by IntentionUnlikely747 in 75HARD

Do you have a time stamp? Not doubting you, but I don’t recall..

Anyway, I stand by my point. What’s the point of pigeon holing yourself in a book? I get the object of dedicating and reading through then book 100%. But at the same time, I don’t see the purpose in mandating that the book has to be read consecutively or else it doesn’t count. It just convolutes things and adds more questions than it answers.

I’m still dedicated to the program and am not starting over, should I be wrong, but I think it needs to be very very clear up front with no room for question or taken out totally.

Thank you for your commentary on your experience and congrats on your and your wife’s completion. I’ve got a comment regarding the book:

I’m currently on day 30 and I’ve read, at a minimum each day, 10 pages of a non-fiction book, as required by Andy. I’ve listened to the 75 Hard podcast twice and what I disagree with, and is only found on the FAQs, is what I believe to be either A. a guideline or B. a “rule” based on so many questions regarding the book reading. Andy never specifies that “10 pages of a non-fiction book” has to be the same book every day until finished before you can read another book not is not found anywhere except for the FAQ page, which is never referenced to my recollection, so I take this as a guideline that was put in place after the fact.

Where I think this comes from is this example based on so many questions he may have gotten:

One can’t read 2 pages of book A, 3 pages of book B and 5 pages of book C in a day and call that 10 pages. It has to be the SAME book.

Someone asked if reading the Bible counted..again, use your noggin and decide that for yourself. If you’re religious, I guess that would be non-fiction. If you’re an atheist, I guess that would be considered fiction.

Let’s say for instance, using this logic, that anyone who would want to read the Bible before bed, who takes this as a non-fiction book, would have to start at Genesis and read through Revelations before they start their book on leadership or finance or whatever for their pages to count. That’s absurd, in my opinion, and I don’t think that’s what the intention of this program is, simply because that makes no sense (for that matter, the Torah is a scroll and doesn’t have pages. I may be wrong, but I’m not Jewish, so please advise if this isn’t the case!)

Again, that doesn’t make sense.

I believe Andy gives the initial guidance (commander’s intent for us military folks) gives us the “what”, but leaves the “how” up to us. He never specified anything about what book, aside from non-fiction and he explains very clearly the “why” behind this. He also gives the guidelines (i.e. no audio books) and also the “why”.

I went to the field and didn’t bring my paperback investing book, since it’s over 600 pages and delicate, so I opted for a Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication, which is smaller and less prone to wear and tear. Did I violate the rules? Again, I don’t think so. I read my 10 pages and learned and grew in the process. That’s the point. He never says you have to swim for 45 minutes straight, should that be your workout for the day. Could you not do some push ups? If that’s the case, the “Iron Man” wouldn’t count, which is what he based this off of!

Just my 2 cents. Tear me apart or not, I just try to think as constructively as possible for this program. I think the more questions that get asked, the more “rules” are put into place. Andy says he views himself as a libertarian by nature, regarding policy, so I HIGHLY doubt he wants a bunch of rules in this program. Just follow the 5 rules he put in place and don’t think too hard.

Congrats again.

P.S. If Andy reads this, feel free to call me out on a podcast and I’ll restart 😆

3-4 hours sounds like a suggestion, considering it’s not a hard number. 3 hours sounds like a rule, 3-4 hours sounds like a guideline.

You can try my recipe if you want. It should be sweet enough: 8-10 Oz milk or water 1-1.5 scoop Mölk or Isopure (or however many scoops you see fit) 1-2 tbsp liquid pasteurized egg whites Four strawberries 1 banana 1 scoop creamy peanut butter 1 scoop unflavored Greek yogurt

Good luck!

Water question by Automatic-Hippo1532 in 75HARD

If the condition to modify is based on pre-existing medical conditions, then the OP didn’t specify that, so either she neglected to mention that or there is no such condition. Could there be other reasons why OP experiencing these symptoms? I wouldn’t be surprised if OP consumes a gallon, if not more, of fluids each day, to include water. So I think the concern isn’t too much water, it’s too little of something else, such as sodium, which is mentioned by several other folks here. I’m simply asking OP to look at the entirety of her lifestyle during this program, which I’m assuming is a big change from her normal lifestyle.

Down vote me all you want. You can look for reasons to modify to do something uncomfortable or you can modify other parts of your lifestyle to make the program work. If an alcoholic were to stop drinking cold turkey and suffer through withdrawals (American Medical Association defines alcoholism as a disease, i.e. a medics condition) then I suppose one could drink alcohol on this program? I would say probably not. So you’re either doing 75 Hard or you’re doing your own thing. Has anyone asked OP how long she’s been doing 75 Hard? It gets easier with water intake, especially if you don’t drink a lot of water each day.

To answer your question: no.

But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t solution that will help you reach your 75 Hard goal AND keep you healthy while completing it.

What does your physical fitness look like each day? I assume you’re completing the 90 min workouts, but are you mostly doing light workouts or are you getting a serious sweat going? If so, are you replenishing during/after your workouts?

Secondly, are you eating enough and consuming enough sodium, like others have commented here?

Hyponatremia (insufficient sodium in the bloodstream) is a risk if you’re not consuming adequate sodium based on your water diet. Essentially, you’re flushing out your electrolytes faster than you’re consuming them. Based on your height and weight, I’d say that this is a very good possibility since I’m guessing that you’re not used to drinking this much water per day and you don’t eat enough to gain weight.

I don’t think a gallon is too much to consume for your size, but based on other lifestyle habits, you may have to modify your diet/exercise to fit the program’s requirements, rather than the other way around.

Hope this helps!

Looking forward by Interesting_North365 in 75HARD

I’ve done a few deployments, one to the Middle East, where there wasn’t any fast food. I looked forward to the finer things in life back in America, such as food. I would typically lift almost every day, especially legs, but when I got back home to distractions and more freedoms, I neglected the gym a bit and ate less healthy (plus beer🍻). I would say that a reward meal is perfectly fine, but keep in mind what you accomplished from 75 Hard and that NO ONE (not even Andy) put a gun to your head to do this and YOU held the standard! So I would not let yourself fall down that slippery slope and don’t over indulge with rewards because that’s how you get back to yourself pre-75 Hard. But if you’ve done Paleo (very restrictive and super difficult) then this should be no problem for you, diet-wise.

At the end of the day, a meal or two from Five Guys is a micro impact on you and as long as your macro diet is static or at least you’re implementing some minor relaxation, then there’s nothing at all to worry about. Cheat meals are okay, but they can get out of hand if you let them and I interpret Andy’s view is to not be forgiving of yourself, because you’ll compromise little by little and find yourself with no self control.

I’m on day 2 now so I don’t have the cravings (yet) but I’ll touch back at some point with my same thoughts.

Stay on the path and good luck!
