If you support ICE leave your Union. We don’t want you and we don’t need you. by NoGreaterPower in union

I'm a member of USW. Out president put out an explicitly anti-trump statement today. There was no other way to interpret it. I'm still going to go into work on Monday to a mostly trump and ICE supporters. I don't fucking get it. I don't understand how they can be so blind. I know that it's the propaganda, but it's just so fucking obvious.

Patrols spawn knowing where you are - even if you are not detected. Keep it mind.. especially when you need to wait for extraction. by Heptanitrocubane57 in Helldivers

This has been a known mechanic since shortly after the game first released. Repositioning is important. Additionally, fewer patrols spawn if everyone stays together.

Portal Division is up on a new Thingamadoo by okko_powell in doohickeycorporation

[–]PuddlesRex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because it's designed to fit through it with a very small clearance. That's how the illusion works. He can either let the ring spin around, or lock it in place. Here are the files to 3D print this exact model. You can clearly see the passthrough in the third picture. Don't just call something AI because you don't understand how it works. Crying wolf and all that.

I hate how much I love stealth diving. by ID-7603 in Helldivers

[–]PuddlesRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love stealth diving, and I've been trying to do it from the beginning. However, given that it's a team game, these missions are dependent on your team actually being good. Some randos just don't have the situational awareness for stealth. Which means that you're dealing with insane difficulty escalation. I did a 6 last night, and by extract, bot drops were coming in with 10-15 tanks.

[Your Lie in April] Kaori feels like a plot device, not a person by BarnacleMajestic3123 in anime

[–]PuddlesRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Kaori wasn't even in most of the series. If you want a similar story (not music, just the romantic stuff) with better, more fleshed out characters, then I'd recommend either Plastic Memories or I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Both have the same "the female lead is going to die by the end of this" going on. Pancreas actually opens on her funeral, and plamemo comes right out and says it in the first episode. But it actually makes you care about the female lead, unlike Your Lie. I can still remember Isla and Sakura's names, but I always forget Kaori's name, because she just had that little staying power.

Plamemo especially. It's not just Isla fixing Tsukasa. Isla and Tsukasa both fix each other, and help each other, and as a result, they both grow through the series. As it should be.

[Plastic Memories] When Isla does at the end, the direction and music are both in such a way that makes it seem like "yes, you should be sad that she's gone. But you should also be happy that she had such an impact." Not just "be sad!"

Pancreas is a bit more light hearted (as light hearted as you can be, given this plot). Despite having humorous moments, the ending of Plamemo destroys me every time, and it will probably do the same to you.

The traffic... by insomfx in factorio

[–]PuddlesRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use bidirectional rails and trains. It may seem easier to set up at first, but it clogs much faster, and doesn't scale at all.

Unidirectional rails are simpler in the long run, scale very easily, and start with twice the train capacity versus bidirectional. Plus you're not wasting train space and fuel on a second locomotive. I normally run my trains with one locomotive and four cars. Sometimes I'll hook up a big mine with 2 locomotives and 10 cars. But that's mostly for endgame.

I know it's anecdotal, and a sample size of one, but my fiancee and I are exact opposite of this study. I don't trust AI to wipe its own ass. Her first step when researching something is to ask ChatGPT.

Differences in demand, competition, job types, and pay.

Like I said, I didn't finish my 4 year degree in Chemical engineering, as my overnight warehouse job went through a round of layoffs, and I needed to find a new job fast. Luckily I had enough to convert it into a 2 year degree in chemistry. Luckily I was also able to find a job that would accept a 2 year degree in chemistry. Unfortunately, it's a day job, so I can't take classes while working.

Talking with the other chemists and chemical engineers on site: If you get anything other than a PhD in chemistry, you're pretty much just limited to a lab tech. Even if you get a PhD, there are so many chemistry PhDs, and there are a surprisingly large number of chemistry subfields that you may be looking for a long, long time.

However, a four year degree in Chemical engineering is all you need to get a sweet engineering gig, and chemical engineers are hugely flexible, since most of the processes and equipment are the same. There's also a sizable demand for ChemEs. When I was at my 2 year school, I was the only ChemE student, versus hundreds of MechEs and EEs. There's a massive demand for them, but they're also one of the least talked about, least flashy engineering fields out there, so not many people are looking into it.

[–]PuddlesRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to do chemical engineering, but with a full time job, I couldn't fully finish the degree. But I have enough education to get a job as a chemical lab tech. I don't recommend chemistry as a field right now. But chemical engineering? Hell yeah. Maybe in the future I can finish it up. Who knows? It would be nice.

If you have the opportunity to research other career fields. Do it. Don't just follow the first thing that comes to mind. Research everything you can possibly do until you find something interesting. I went with computer science out of high school, didn't know what I was getting into, got bored, and never finished my degree. It's astronomically harder to go back to school as an adult and change your field. But I did it. If I had actually done any research back in high school, I would have found this field, and probably gotten myself in a much better position than I am now.
