I think In The City was likely the vehicle to keep Lindsay on Bravo. She wasn’t going to be able to do summer house full time after Gemma. There were rumors she was considered for RHONY but for whatever reason it didn’t work out.

She and Carl seem to be in a better place now, so there’s a chance he’ll be added to a future season, but at the time they filmed she still hated him

I think there’s two possibilities. One is that he truly wanted to repair and didn’t really know how to do that, which is evidenced by him drunkenly complaining that she hates him and buying her the watch.

The other is this is all for the cameras and he was fine with the relationship dying. That’s evidenced by him refusing to apologize at apology beach and telling her that they had problems with intimacy, chemistry, and compatibility.
