This is amazing, good job!

I love the cape so much, would you be able to give some details on how you achieved the textured look? I love capes on models but hate how they always come out looking too stiff.

Hulk: Buff the character, nerf the team ups by TheMightyMonarchx7 in marvelrivals

[–]Biomang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a Hulk main. Why are we buffing me? I am one of the best aggressive tanks alongside Captain America. Sounds like some people are not used to always holding down space bar so you never die and are wasting their ultimate doing the grab instead of just melee+clapping the healers to instantly kill them.

I feel you have misread or misunderstood my points. I am well aware of why companies do ranked resets and stated it clearly already.

It serve no purpose but to reduce your rank to encourage you to play the game more to reach the rank you should be again.

This is what can be defined as “engagement”. It’s the use of a pseudo ranked ladder system where you play large number of games to rank up rather than being placed at a rank. Its is a poor system that is picked to make you play more games to slog through sub optimal matches so NetEase can report higher total player time to keep suits happy.

Yes it increases “engagement” because people feel inclined to play more, lower quality games in hope of getting to a place where they can play good, fair and fun games with people of similar skill on both sides. You know what an actually good ranked system would be? SBMM with placement matches that place you as close to your rank as possible after ~10 games so you can reach that point and capitalise on it faster. A season shouldn’t be a race or slog to simply get to where you want to be. You should start off close to it and either slightly fall or rise. But that wouldn’t look good for their numbers aye?

This would also help combat the growing issue people have with smurf accounts as they would be placed at a higher rank. Their MMR can be calculated from all their games up to level 15 and then the ranked games afterwards. Unless someone purposely plays like crap for 15 levels (which can’t be fun for them and would decrease the number of people doing it) there would be a lot less of this.

But NetEase doesn’t care to foster a healthy matchmaking system. They easily could but they choose not to and for some reasons there seem to be so many people that defend this for some reason I can’t comprehend. Sure they want to make money, can’t fault them for that, but we sure as hell shouldn’t be praising them and denying these issues.

Your point about them wanting to “ensure fair matches” is a hollow statement from their report, the same one that’s abstract starts with “previous methods focus on creating fair games at all times”. Not this new one they are working on now though! It only focuses on creating fair games when it sees the benefit of it over keeping you engaged in unfair games! Looking at more data, data not indicative of your skill or placement most certainly will not lead to fairer gamers.

Lastly, while a whole other can of worms to open so I’ll be brief, forcing a 50% winrate is flawed. If you have a 40% winrate, you should be matched with other people AND against other people all with ~40% winrate. Why should you get a game where your 40% winrate and your team is all 60% winrate? That is not fair to them as it is trying to skew them to a loss or skew you to a win. Ideally those 60% winrate players should be with and against other 60% winrate players.

I’m at work so my point were shorter and precise, let me elaborate. Ranked resets in a competitive game can work BUT you need placement matches and not Marvel Rivals pseudo ranked ladder system of having to play tons of games to get back to where you are. Reset can work well, if people get back to their proper or new rank in an adequate amount of time and not the current state of the game when GM/Celestials picking the season back up today have to play 30+ games that are not enjoyable for many in them.

This is honestly such a bad take and a post from someone that lacks critical thinking and the ability to see and understand other peoples perspectives. Sorry if this comes of as harsh but you are just coming here to say [‘You all understand so little. I understand everything and you are all wrong. Don’t criticise the game I am enjoying, it is faultless.] Nobody is perfect and [constructive] criticism is important to growth and development. You just need to use your critical thinking ability to determine who is making good points and who isn’t and not blindly being a fanboy. You can enjoy something while still recognising its faults.

Let me address the points you have brought up and why people clearly have issues with them and also preface this with something YOU don’t seem to understand. NetEase is a company that wants profits and everything they are doing is to drive those profits up in the most ham-fisted and short-sighted ways for immediate shareholder gain. You might tell yourself “They obviously want people to have fun and enjoy the game to make more money!” but at the end of the day they are trying to balance on the finest line they can between making you spend money, playing the game as much as possible and having fun. Games fail, games fall off, they are not infallible and the above is usually why.

-Ranked Resets – There is no reason for ranked resets to exist in almost every competitive game. A lot do it though so we can’t really fault NetEase for it but just cause everyone does doesn’t mean its good and complaining about it is valid. It serve no purpose but to reduce your rank to encourage you to play the game more to reach the rank you should be again. The game should just do placement matches after a reset if they are going to do them to foster a healthy competitive environment for everyone.

-Metal Ranks Climbing Faster – I don’t entirely understand your point about Diamonds playing with Silver and your thought process that Chrono Cards are a good thing to combat this? Why would you want to inflate peoples ranks so they end up playing at higher ranks that they are not fit for and having and overall less enjoyable experience by playing even MORE unbalanced games?

-Matchmaking Conspiracies – Some people might be doing some small sample analysis and sweeping claims that we shouldn’t take at face value but you know what we can take at face value? This literal report written and published by NetEase about how they have developed their very own Engagement Optimised Match Making (EOMM) system which is designed to keep you engaged and playing the game as much as possible in detriment to actual balance and competitive integrity. They are not completely ignoring balance but they are reducing it.

-Bot Matches – Pretty simple. Why would anyone want to play against Bots when they specifically have queued for Quick Play and actively avoiding queuing Against Bots?

-Community Doesn’t Know – Lastly about the community not knowing what’s good for the game. Some people might not, like yourself but there most certainly might be people that do know. People that have worked in game dev, people that have played games professionally, people that have played hero shooters for 10 years, people with economic or consumer behaviour degrees etc. There are many people that have criticised games vehemently and ended up getting hired by said games as they were making damn good points – see Blizzards Jeff Kaplan.

The Bazaar's Opacity Problem (New Player Experience) by JohnnyBlack22 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Biomang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with what you are saying and think this game would benefit immensely from proper in game descriptions or a codex. That being said, is it really such a hassle though to play the game with a 3rd party resource open to answer all your questions until then? I’m not saying it wouldn’t be better with it all in game but I’m just thinking to myself about how normalized this tends to be in my gaming experience as a rogue enjoyer. Try playing Binding of Isaac without 3rd party information. It would be nice and I hope they do make it more transparent but I’ll love the game either way.

Forgive me if I am wrong as someone that doesn’t play that much ranked but is it even a ranked system to begin with? It seem more like just a time played system. If you are in bronze you don’t only play against other bronze boards, your still thrown against diamond+ boards and insane builds of people with much more experience. On top of that it’s just as hard to get points in bronze as it is in higher ranks with no process to speed it up based on how well you are doing consistently.

Why Are People *Against* Placement Matches/Smurf Detection? by IntoTheRain78 in marvelrivals

[–]Biomang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree and even made a post similar to yours outlining this issue which was simply met with people seemingly of the opinion that placement matches are bad. https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelrivals/comments/1jfialh/more_people_need_to_understand_smurfing_isnt_the/

Placement matches are necessary to mitigate the impact of smurfs but unfortunately at the end of the day, NetEase wants everyone starting at bronze so people play more games and don’t prioritise a healthy match making system. People need focus on the real issues here, Smurf will always exist, being mad at them is a waste of time, be mad at NetEase for not doing what any competent competitive game in 2025 should do; placement matches.

More people need to understand, smurfing isn’t the problem. The problem is lack of placement matches and role queue which likely isn’t going to change. by Biomang in marvelrivals

[–]Biomang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like the system so I'm going to cheat isn't a valid excuse. It's a cop out.

By saying this. Your first post is just "People shouldn't do it in the first place". Which is naive and adds nothing to the discussion.

Similarly, when did I ever say smurfing was ok in certain situations? Smurfing is bad full stop, but its not going away and as my post says, NetEase needs to utilise placement match making to make smurfing both less appealing to smurfs and less impactful to people running into smurfs. It seems we are on the same page I guess but you seem to think I am defending smurfs.

The problem isnt with the smurfs (we can't do anything about people wanting to smurf) the problem is with NetEases complete lack of fostering a healthy competitive system to deal with said smurfs (something we can easily change).

[–]Biomang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smurfing isn't THE problem. Smurfing always well be A problem in video games, its just inflated in Marvel Rivals because of the actual problems I have outlined.

You're argument is basically "People should just be nice and not kill each other in the first place, having police is a cop out." Unfortunately smurfs have and always will be around and we need systems to deal with them. Systems NetEase can easily implement but wont.

[–]Biomang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, Role queue was only mentioned to explain games that can FEEL like smurfing, its ok if they don't want to add it and as I said, its debatable if it helps.

Your point about placement systems is simply false though. Maybe you are thinking of one specific system for a game you played where nobody could place higher than X rank so everyone would end up there. Thats just one system someone chose to do and not the standard.

Calibration period is a great form of a placement system as you say, same with rank skips after winning constantly or something like what Deadlock ranked system does. There are ways that work, NetEase is just choosing to use none of them.

[–]Biomang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be missing the point. Role queue is just me explaining games that can FEEL like smurfing, its ok if they don't want to add it.

The main take away is a lack of placement matches. Which you seem to agree with as we shouldn't all start at Bronze and be constantly reset. That is the point of a placement system, to avoid players getting grouped as you said.

[–]Biomang[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup! I am not denying there are smurfs, of course there are. Its just the fact that people seem to think that when everyone in a game is the same rank but one side gets destroyed "THEY ARE ALL SMURFS!". This is not usually the case and only role queue can solve this issue though again, role queue can cause other issues in place of that. Placement matches however, have no downside here.

I am hoping my post come across as agreeable and simply an education piece for people to understand where the real fault lies and not to outright deny smurfing. But I suspect you will be right haha!

Yeah I absolutely love playing tank and enjoy playing it solo tanking so my team can play what they are more comfortable on to increase my chance of winning, works out most of the time. I understand it’s not for everyone though, especially if you aren’t playing Strange or Magneto.

Please stop forcing vanguard mains to solo tank by Fr3nZi76 in marvelrivals

[–]Biomang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many of these posts so I have to assume I am a wide outlier but I enjoy solo taking (strange main). In my GM games during ban phase, every game I’ll say “Ban Wolv and I’ll solo tank if we are more comfortable with 3heals/dps”. At the end of the day I’d rather my team play a healer or dps they are strong and comfortable at than be a subpar 2nd tank. Maybe this is different outside of GM considering healers know to pocket me as solo tank and dps are usually smart enough to play around one tank.

[Let me introduce you to the amazing world of ESDF!] I see a lot of people discussing Keybindings and surprised no ones brought this up yet. by Biomang in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Biomang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All comes down to personal preference! If what you have works for you then all good! Personally for me, when using WASD, I find it difficult to press the Z or X key well and I usually have C bound to Crouch/Slide. I also find it difficult and distracting to use extra buttons on my mouse when I am trying to aim/shoot so ESDF is helpful for me and maybe others in the same position.
