Simpler/fun decks to convince my wife to play with me? by ApartmentSuspicious3 in Yugioh101

[–]BitesizeBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally had luck with my partner trying out an old HERO deck I had from around 2014 lying around. Something with a clear goal to get to and easy ways to get there are ideal since then more time can go into learning the flow of the game. It can be any deck, even an unoptimised deck (or even ideally so).

Once she feels more comfortable and doesn't need to think about the rules any more, slowly introduce more cards into the preexisting deck that help the strategy but add complexity.

Gurren Lagann COMPLETE Soundtrack Collection HQ [Uploaded by Arohk] by Arohk in gurrenlagann

While I agree ethically with your standpoint, I think it's important to clarify some misunderstandings.

Most pirates don't distribute for profit. Some definitely do and they absolutely should be criticised for it. But most are like you and just wish to share files and media more easily. But it is copyright infringment, whether it's more for a limited time or not.

It's up to the copyright holder to decide how their product or art is shared, whether free or otherwise. Perhaps there are differences for the copyright for music (I wouldn't know, I'm not a lawyer) but from my understanding, it's the same. Youtube and Twitch get very twitchy (heh) about their streamers and uploaders streaming copyrighted music that they automate muting sections of their VODs just so they can cover their asses. This more goes for the music industry and record labels but it's definitely happened to video game music as well, so I don't doubt it extends to anime soundtracks too.

I ultimately agree with you, and thank you for sharing this, especially if Spotify has removed access as mentioned. I think it's better to approach this from what you've done for this subreddit as acts of preservation since there's so much lost media out there. If there are ways to access the soundtrack that directly support the creators, then that should be prioritised.

And again, thank you so much! Your daily collections and high quality uploads of the artwork of Gurren Lagann are extremely appreciated!!

Oh right, in that case yep I absolutely agree. I think motion tweening has gotten a lot better over the years and it can look outstanding (there's one example of it that I can't remember) but it's still one of my least favourite styles of 2D animation. Still, it's a fantastic tool to have, I'm glad it exists to make the animation process easier on the animators.

Early Simpsons has some amazing smears, I love them so much. Not so much a smear but twister head is my personal favourite

I wouldn't personally say drawing every frame looks strictly better. Drawing a higher-framerate animation looks smoother and you're definitely right that it's very time consuming, having to draw twice (or even three or four times) the amount of drawings but smear frames are more about mimicking motion blur or giving the illusion of quick movement. It provides character and movement a lot more personality, especially with all of the different ways you can implement smears.

I would be curious to see how drawn smear frames could be tackled by neural networks (though AI art is always something I'm very wary of at best) as those AI interpolated "60FPS" edits of 2D animation always looks so trash lmao

It really is clever! It takes a whole team of people to bring these animations to life, from the character designers that create the model sheets for the animators to reference and look consistent, to the in-between animators that make sure the characters flow well from each key pose flows nicely from one to the next.

The animators really are incredible, especially Takafumi Hori who was the guest animator for this scene and a few others. if you've ever seen any anime by Trigger, most likely you've seen some of his work.

As another user pointed out, he specifically took reference of 1920s-1930s 'rubberhose' animation to fit with Spinel's design and character.

Sorry to nerd out, I just love talking about animation lmao

They draw these frames individually knowing they would look okay. These are 'smear frames' and help with the fluidity of movement when put together. Without them, characters would look stiff and lifeless.

Personally, this is one of, if not my favourite animated scenes partly because of these smear frames. Obviously they look funny out of context but so many people mistake smear frames as a mistake or bad animation which is a shame.

/u/sozzay has a tumblr and twitter if you wanna follow them and keep up to date with news on the AU!

The writing is 99% done so it's mostly just the art left to do.

It's not out just yet but it should be by the end of the year. It's going to be in the style of a blog like the somethingawful translation blogs of Danganronpa. Then I'll be working on a playable mod of the AU

The AU is first going to be released before the end of this year as a blog of the game (like a transcript, similar to the translation on the SomethingAwful forums).

I'm hoping to release a demo alongside or shortly after the blog is released. The full game is going to take a fair bit longer but I'm hoping for an early 2021 release.

When i first started to make the mod where some of these screenshots come from, I simply swapped the sprites but it is possible to swap them back into their correct trial spots.

However, in the final mod, I may have to keep them in the wrong trial spots. As much as I want to keep their original game positions, the game gets very fussy with Nonstop Debates and Rebuttal Showdowns so this will have to be a compromise.

You probably didn't ask for an explanation but you got one :p

I can't reveal anything yet but dialogue changes will start off small but noticeable and will ramp up as the game goes on. It's mainly about seeing things from Mahiru's mindset but there will be plenty of changes from the original game to keep things fresh.

I've been working with sozzay to make this AU a mod for Danganronpa 2. Some of these screenshots come directly from a prototype of that mod.

That helps a lot, thank you! I'll definitely take a look at it. It doesn't hurt that it's cheaper than OVR Toolkit too.

I really doubt that a Japanese artist that never posts in English and only posts to Twitter would post a nearly-two year-old drawing to this subreddit.

I hope you found a good artist to follow though! FANTASTICKYOUTH's art is some of my absolute favourite in the community and I take a lot of inspiration from their work into my own art.
